Is Linkedin Making A Critical Error? (Repost Due To It Being Blocked On Linkedin)
It seems that LinkedIn is making some major changes.
They've released a new UI built on ember, (Yay), but... killed a ton of functionality...
The latest new user interface doesn't show your 3 basic statistics anymore
No more:
- Replies to comments,
- Detailed insights into your posts,
- Switching between Top Posts, and Most Recent posts,
- Seeing your ranking among your connections,
- Tagging your contacts,
- Unlike a post,
- See your followers,
- Download profile,
- Unfollow profiles,
- Block Profiles.
- Only profile metric is sum of last 90 day.
- Killed the Pulse Reader.

Why would LinkedIn remove all of these features that make the platform interesting, ones that drive engagement with their users? I think they are making a huge mistake.
"Seeing your ranking among your connections" as an example is one of the key metrics that makes LinkedIn "Fun" for a lot of users.聽
Being able to tag your friends drives engagement and helps you stay connected with your contacts.

Not having access to metrics to gauge how your posts are doing?
This seems almost like social media suicide to me..
In my humble opinion they need to be working on adding features to drive engagement not taking them away.

Having spoken to a number of these appointed influencers Phil Friedman I agree. They have also said it is not worth their time to publish on Linkedin anymore.

It depends on which Internship ad they answered. I would say roughly 50 percent are. And if they perform well after three months we either lose them or start paying them. Ecommerce is an extremely challenging field it is not neuroscience but the amount of information you have to digest daily can be challenging. Every day there is a new app, new platform, new thing to learn.

Millennials such as myself remember a time before the "internet" and cell phones today's "Young people" do not. The game has changed. Linkedin will go the direction of Sears if they do not step up their game.

An internship can be paid, or it can not. Depends on if they are coming from other countries. Various factors. These are in addition to my salaried employees.

It boils down to purely sustainability. Millennials find Linkedin boring, the lack of features make it dated and less interesting than other social media platforms. If they do not do something to correct this their user base will literally slowly die out. As someone that has hired over 50 interns for marketing this year I can speak from experience when I say some of them don't even know what Linkedin is. And only a handful had accounts.

Facebook is rolling out "Facebook Business" soon. If Linkedin does not get their engagement up they will wither and die. Millennials will choose Facebook business over Linkedin. Out of the 440M+ profiles on Linkedin, I believe only a very small percentage are active or even real profiles. What that percentage is is hard to say, but after having using Linkedin every day for a year. And doing extensive A/B testing on posts, updates, etc. Things don't add up.

As someone who has thoroughly abused Linkedin, there is not much I can say without sounding hypocritical. Lol Richard Dipilla is an interesting one. He works for Warren Buffet and has some very strong ties to Linkedin founders/management. His way of connecting acquired him close to 100k connections I believe. While it can be argued that nobody needs that many connections (of course you don't) It can come in very handy when looking for introductions to people you actually need to meet.

While I agree with some of the points you make Max. In order for a network to grow or even maintain its size it needs to have daily active users. Linkedin needs to be adding features and things that will engage their users. Not removing them. Look at all of the changes Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter etc are adding to their social media platforms. Live video etc, things that will create more engagement. Hence more active users = just better for everyone. Users / Advertisers and so on. Myspace.. Monsterboard.. victims of lack of engagement.
