Asian Food Fix - Barrio Malasaña

Today we're hanging around Malasaña, a trendy barrio of Madrid and my old living quarters. For those of you who aren't familiar with Malasaña it's the hipster hangout of this capital city -coffee shops, hairdressers, mustaches, bicycles and chihuahuas on every corner-  and also boasts a very active nightlife. Here we'll explore the Asian food options in and around this neighborhood. If you're looking for a quick bite and something beyond the standard vegan + vegetarian joint then look no further for tempting flavors and substantial portions.

Nigiri

Asian Food Fix - Barrio Malasaña

Metro: Tribunal

What to expect: Options! Although this is a sushi joint, they serve a plethora of plant based dishes to enjoy seated at their family style tables or take away to munch on at home: yakimeshi (Japanese fried rice), quinoa veggie salad, wakame + tofu salad, wakame + quinoa salad, udon soup, miso soup, gyoza ramen, futomaki, edamame, mochi and artisan ice cream.
What else?: Tuesday Special- (3x2) Choose 3 items and only pay for 2!

Shi-Shang

What else?: Drink not included in price. They also have a menu you can order from and Menu del día, but really why?

The Big Bahn

Asian Food Fix - Barrio Malasaña

Where: c/ Don Felipe 4
Metro: Tribunal
Price: 5,95€
What to expect: A fusion of flavor. These bánh mì's (vietnamese sandwiches) are filled with "vegballs" made from rice + edamame topped with cilantro, cucumber, pickled carrots + daikon, sriracha, and mayo. *vegan mayo available* They sooooo hit the spot!
What else?: Their hours are a bit confusing.
Closed Mondays
Tuesday-Thursday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Friday- Saturday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm - 12:00 pm
Sunday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Walk to Wok

Asian Food Fix - Barrio Malasaña

Where: c/Mayor 4 and c/Hortaleza 7
Metro: Sol and Gran Via
Price: Depends on how many toppings you get. I usually walk out having spent around 10€.
What to expect: A full belly. This is my go-to when I'm hungry, don't want to cook, and tired of Spanish food and pizza. Asian fast food.
What else?: Your food is made fresh right in front of your eyes by the wok masters.

Pad Thai Wok

Asian Food Fix - Barrio Malasaña

Where: c/Corredera Baja de San Pablo, 41
Metro: In between Noveciado, Callao, Gran Via and Tribunal
Price: 5,50€ - 9,50€
What to expect: Similar concept to Walk to Wok, except this is Thai based and you've got many more options. Noodles, rice, curries, soups, salads and rolls.
What else?: Celiac and Vegan friendly! Tip - don't get the veggie burger. It's a frozen patty on not-so-fresh bread. Disappointment city.
