Madrid’s Veggie Burger Scene

For all my plant based loving people, finding a veggie burger that lives up to your veggie-burger-back-home expectations isn’t easy. Your favorite joint set the bar high and although you might not get exactly what you have in mind here, find comfort in knowing that there are many satisfying options in this city. I’ve been on the hunt for veggie burgers in Madrid and this is some of what I’ve uncovered.

Viva Burger

Where: Costanilla de San Andrés, 16

Metro: La Latina

What: Handmade patties made of vegetables, oats, peanuts and apples + their special sauce. They also have a falafel based patty.

Why we like: Delicious burgers. Variety of burgers. Fries. Terraza. What’s not to like here?

Zombie Bar

Where: c/Pez 7 and c/Noviciado 14

Metro: Both locations are near Noveciado

What: Soy based burger which gives the patty a rubbery texture, tastes similar to a hot dog (or at least what I remember a hot dog to taste like).

Why we like: Atmosphere. Quirky – receipts come in VHS box, the menu is woven into a comic book, and coat hangers are made from skateboard wheels. Hispter total!

Where: multiple locations

Metro: Opera/Sol, Gran Via, Callao, Tribunal, Arguelles, Principe Pio, La Latina, Atocha, San Bernardo, Santiago Bernabeu

What: A soft patty made of chickpeas, red onion, red pepper, carrots, lemon juice, cilantro, mozzarella, curry, ginger and a few other ingredients mixed in. *contains milk*

Why we like: Open late! Now you have an option other than pizza and nachos for those late night/early morning walks home.

Anauco Gourmet

Where: c/ Reina 25 and Paseo del General Martínez Campos, 40

What: A falafel based patty with large pieces of chickpeas in the mix, comes with *goats cheese*, fried onion, cucumber, tomato, and arugula on top + a side of yogurt dressing.

Why we like: The hand-cut fries and fluffy bread are divine, the burger is oh so filling.

Goiko Grill

Where: multiple locations
