Human Appreciation

Buzz: 3 Steps to Building Your Personal Brand
For me life is a play or as Michael Schrage described as "Serious Play", though he was talking about prototyping and not life and certainly not my life. One of the things I want to do is to get out of the attention economy and into human appreciation and then deal with the economics of that personal decision . Human appreciation in my context is not some do good view of the world where we "give peace a chance", it is simply me figuring out how I can be a human. That is not as obvious as it appears because I can be tribal rather than human and then it is animal appreciation, or I can more vegetable than human, then it is plant appreciation (but better to be an animal than a plant any day) and then there is digital appreciation which is machine appreciation. I can take a human view of plant intelligence, but recognize that animal intelligence is what most of us are - for we are members of the animal kingdom, or at least a part of the primate family. What differentiates us is our capacity to regulate somewhere between our prefrontal cortex and our hippocampus, our capacity to be this thing we call "being human". This is not a facility that nature gave us, it is a potential we have but we need to nurture it. That nurturing did not begin with us, it begins with our guardians or parents and the nature of our society.
I explored the word human in thought left in blog led by Javier here: https://www.bebee.com/producer/@javierbebee/tu-curriculum-no-sirve-para-encontrar-trabajo
In the hunter/gatherer age were first class animals who found ways to use simple machines, but today we are digitally empowered creatures and so we can consider ourselves part machine. We can even embed machines into our bodies to enhance our abilities - but that does not necessarily mean we enhance our humanity. Humanity is not a philosophical challenge - we know what being human is, but nearly all of us have a really hard time remaining with our humanity. So many other things vie for our attention, that often rather than sometimes we have a poetic view of being human, rather than a practical view of being human. There is still no way of escaping online participation without engaging the branded life - not even thinking out aloud. This is where the Truman Show is so good - except I know I am living in the brand-led existence.

Interesting that I saw the word DIGNA-TENTITY before I saw the word DIGI-IDENTITY. It is only on my second look that I saw portmanteau of digital identity and not dignity-identity. This is the same mind that is the providence of great marketers. It is not the trend of personal branding that bothers me, it was being confronted by Tom Peters who launched BRAND-YOU at the end of the last century portraying the human being to sell themselves like Proctor & Gamble sell a box of soap. When people read the original roll out of "The Brand Called You", it was a hit, but I did not focus on how we can Proctor & Gamble our own being or Unilever our soul, I just stared in amazement that this concept could be launched with an image of soap powder. https://www.fastcompany.com/28905/brand-called-you Here were on the eve of the 21s Century and someone was reducing the human being to a box of "Tide". Now add to that the feeling of being a product in a digital container, my reaction then was not the reaction of my peers. Immediately my gut reaction was to launch into posts such as Pathway to Authenticity. Yet that gut reaction was just as limited as "The Brand Called You". That is how Mark Zorro came to be - initially a blog in 2003 where my rejection of "The Brand Called You" expressed itself as a blog of one-liners i.e. that we were becoming a soundbite society. In 2003 I created this blog at blogspot, founded by Evan Williams. In 2006 Evan Williams launched a co-founded a company that promoted guess what? One Liners - his group first called it TWTTR A Brand Called "Mark Zorro" - One Line for Everything !!! http://bit.ly/2km1wyU
