Magnet for Magnificent Minds

Magnet for Magnificent Minds

c9de817c.png

To many organizations create policy but then in enacting that policy forget the original value and purpose of that policy, which invariably had to do with something regarding its people.  If the organization is draconian then the policy is about controlling those people and if the policy is innovative it is about valuing the contribution of people.

Naturally my inclination is to view people as people.  Above is a collection of people highly valuable to beBee and though I have added my text to this photograph, the actual value resides in this group especially if the light that shines in that organization is bringing great people to that organization.   Organizations can get blindsided by a few bad apples and create policy that binds the 99% good to ensure the liability of the bad 1% is covered - and this is what organizations tend to do, they create an organization culture that focus on problems, and become experts at problems.  At beBee I do think the expertise keeps focused on opportunities, and to me this is what the above group shot of beBeepeeps is showing me.

There is a phrase I use on the odd occasion that is important value to me.  The phrase is

"Magnet for Magnificent Minds"

This is a personal purpose for me, it is a central criteria I have (let us say it is my personal compass) where I want to be associated or linked or a part of organizations that is a magnet for magnificent minds.  Sometimes that magnet is driven by what is hot, so when Google became a star power, it naturally attracted magnificent minds, but it also had an intentional policy to look for the best and attract the best - and that policy nurtured an environment where these people will love working.  As Steve Jobs said why hire top talent and then get in their way.

There is only ONE Steve Jobs, what I like about this 4 minute video is that it highlights one of the values that lead to creating a magnet for magnificent minds.  This is also why I like sticking around at beBee because I know behind the scenes the real deal is the living organization.  Most organizations are dead like dead cheese.  This idea of American organizations likened to dead cheese is from Clotaire Rapaille who wrote Culture Code.

A few organizations are made of living cheese - because cheese is not meant to be dead when we eat it - yet we consume tonnes and tones of processed cheese, which is cheese that is processed to be dead by the time we eat it.  The point here is not the cheese or the quality of cheese but what makes a living organization.  I know when I have walked into a very rare but thriving living organization, the mind is different, the way the mind connects as body is different and there is no VP of Culture trying to create dead cheese.  No one ever thinks that even dead cheese used to have a culture.

The writer I pay attention to is Arie De Geus who wrote about the "LIVING COMPANY".  Here we are in 2017 and we still operate in organizations that are not close to becoming a "living company" but again, an organization that is a magnet for magnificent minds does to lead to this rare form of organization.  So it is that I celebrate the photograph above, because in each of these people is that unrealized gift - a gift that only great leadership brings forth and that is surprisingly ignored by so many organizations.

I have never been inside the halls of beBee in Madrid so I do not know whether it has the capacity to become a Living Company, but the photograph does show me the appreciation and unity of its talent - and that this group of creative and technically gifted people represent the transformations to come.  So long as beBee has the power to attract magnificent minds either on the visible end where I am, or the inner beginning which is where these talented people work, I will continue to support beBee and its development.

So this is my appreciation for the talent shown in the picture above and for the talent at beBee not in this particular picture but who are profiled in other pictures.  For me to be able to utilize the beBee platform for my own learning journey is as a result of the ingenuity and purpose of the team at beBee whether they be administrative, technical or creative.  Everyone counts but what counts so much more to me is where an organization becomes a magnet for magnificent minds.  Not as a marketing slogan but as actual living breathing humanity, people who care about their work, who get to create the future and who I offer my sincerest thank you to.

My dearest appreciation to all people who work at beBee and make tomorrow possible and possible even greater.  For sure Javier likes the term "impossible possible" but I am cool with the words talented human beings.  Life is not a slogan or a marketing strategy it is a being.

Our immune system is our intelligence and even a stray immune system is a danger to the body, and if we have a healthy immune system, our focus can be directed at what is making the organization come alive. It is not what people need but what is flourishing within our own being, for if trust, freedom and autonomy is not flowing in our own veins, then what is it that we are attracting? That is the magnetic flow in our own blood stream. A magnet for magnificent minds is neither predicated on the Law of Attraction or the Invisible Hand. It is a most visible means of learning to see - because if we not seeing it, feeling it, tasting it then it is conceptual as what being lucky means. We do need luck that we attract beings create the diversity needed for a living organization but much is also that which flows in us and that is the hardest part of defining the word leadership. For a magnet attraction is the norm but magnificent minds is the most magnetic of challenges. A living organization attracts a magnificent mind, a dead organization repels that same mind.

The emergence here does depend on the expressions of individual people that flourish to create new context. We do not know how or when that context takes upon a life of its own but it requires humility. Sometimes we enforce control and unwittingly serve controllers, then that which will emerge will not be worth talking about - eventually what emerges can be the metaphorical equivalent of "living water" or the abject and physical equivalent of pond-scum. The compass then indeed has a True North pointing towards humanity, because if the singularity happened and artificial intelligence could decide upon truth, this artificial intelligence will not see human beings as humanity but much like human beings view a virus. We have so far not reached out and touched the humanity of own human singularity and we are already contemplating what is transhuman and beyond - emergence will either be an emergency as in the creation of new crisis or emergent form of humanity, even one born from the space of chaos. Perhaps Sara you will take pause to know that a scholar who took on the purpose of trying to figure out the human condition, was so vilified he had to endure defamation suits and legal battles that would have withered a lesser being. The comments on Goodreads will show how much opinion swings on a subject like the "human condition" http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27305883-freedom - so we are far removed from a societal awareness that is based on humanity.

Dear Dean Owen also - but remember this is TOTALLY at the level of APPRECIATION - for I don't want to place my hands on this and direct it because that form of control switches the magnet back from magnificent minds to the everyday reality of mediocre. At least in my lifetime I could say that I crossed the path of shooting star of possibility, but I don't control that star.

Dear David B. Grinberg the atoms of talent are everywhere, what I honour with this buzz is possibility. That possibility is transcribed in my comments #16 and #20 - and yet alone I am powerless, together however it is about awakening to possibility rather dream what it is we dream. Learning to see is accompanied by massive core of humility, I am not placing my hands on how emergence designs or how life self-organizes, but I have taken a psychic snapshot of what is or was alive in the moment I took it. That appreciation is what gives this particular magnetic field its strength - a magnet can also attract mediocre minds, the appreciation is in the title of the buzz - which is "MAGNIFICENT MINDS". I count in that example of magnificent minds people like Dean Owen also - but remember this is at the level of appreciation - I don't want to place my hands on this and direct it because that form of control switches the magnet back from magnificent minds to the everyday reality of mediocre.

We are not to know why the Earth is in its position or why the moon in its position but we do know that myriad placements that came into being created the recipe for life and that includes the tilt of the Earth and a myriad other things like the response of a bacteria. So the magnet is as big as the magnetic field that protects us from the Sun but at the local level it is a product of how evolution works. Not at the simplistic level of survival of the fittest but at the beautiful level of what Stewart Brand once said "ORDER IS FOR FREE" is a quote from Stewart Brand https://www.theguardian.com/books/2013/may/05/stewart-brand-whole-earth-catalog This much I know, life hands the big idea to a few people and then that idea becomes a magnet for magnificent minds, but the greatest failure is in the hands of people who blow this opportunity, and then life WAITS and the opportunity flows to the next seed of evolution - and what this buzz pays homage to is that at the time of writing it, the poles of this magnet have not changed. The seeds of the new do emerge from the ashes of the old and history is rife with people who did not see what they had and then settled for the lesser dream - for imagine being at Shockley Semiconductors are seeing an owner that missed the dream and settled for less - such a story is exemplified by the "Traitorous Eight" THE TRAITOROUS EIGHT http://www.siliconvalleywatcher.com/mt/archives/2011/05/how_the_traitor.php Where there is foolishness, history repeats itself - where there is legend, history is made. Either way I am merely appreciating proof of a magnet in the picture I see above - that picture can one day could serve as an inspiration to many or a warning to a few. It is the few that will always be handed the opportunity to transform ways of being.

What happens Sara Jacobovici when a magnet draws in magnificent minds? The watermark is raised, we are then no longer swimming in a pool of low capability or an exclusive walled garden, especially when great organizations can only be great with great minds. More than sharing this space with a great mind like you, a part of greatness is bringing into focus the great minds that we do not see, the one's that work in the background and whose work we only notice when things do not work or we demand something to be better. Traditionally technologists and creatives have had a confrontational view of the "suits", unless we who benefit from their work note that our allegiance and respect includes them. These are the kind of people pictured above in the beBee office. There is no such thing in my world as a labour of love, there is only depth of appreciation, as we learn together how to live in an appreciative world - where appreciation is not a euphemism for positive thinking or slogans, but truth expressed with humanity. This is the world that creative and technologically gifted people operate in and so this appreciation is widened and made inclusive, not just for the people who are visible here but those behind the scenes who can transform today's visibility into tomorrows vision. Why would I spend my minutes here at beBee unless i truly believed within that a greater vision is in the cusp of evolving - but it will emerge and like all great emergence, it will self-organize into something far greater than we realize.

The next evolution is to transform from adding to multiplying . The future requires us to multiply because we will not BEE about message, we will BEE about meaning. Meaning leads to being. At the very core of that meaning should be a transformation in work, play and life. If we are not thinking about these things now then we will have to wait for the future, and for me - the future is now. There is reality in this beBee team not an image. What I would love to see us creating is a new home and not just another form of work. The old home saw people damage the planet when home is our planet. Life begins from a billions of homes otherwise it is merely a residence or a house or workplace. From this vision of new homes we can transform work, transform play and transform life. Every human being in the picture above is an individual with talent, an individual with hope, an individual with meaning. A magnet for these magnificent minds gets stronger and attracts MORE individuals of great talent. You and I never built the city we live in, but the few will build the new village where the many will live in our new home. The heartbeat of beBee has to BEING ! This team is a multiplier and at the heart of that multiplier is a magnet called beBee.

You are for sure one of the magnets for magnificent minds as are the comments, but today I want to pay attention to the catalysts. The catalysts are pictured above as a part of the beBee team and the catalysts are also in other beBee team pictures, and these are either working in other offices or taking a well-deserved break somewhere. The comments are always visible but the catalysts make the ground and future of all that is and all that is to come. Catalysts for creativity and change.

The easier part is the what's wrong, the more challenging part is what's right? This is something I have thought out at LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/whats-right-cityvp-manjit When I put my mind on what is right I step out of a black and white or polarized world and I step into new possibilities. Just the answers I will receive from asking What's Right? will occupy all my time and all my mind. This is the direction I am heading, and it is not positive thinking but being real about value.

Ruach Irene, Ruach. All of life is made more beautiful with this, and Ruach means "the breath of life". It is not just breathed into my words but it is the oxygen that also flows from people who absolutely know that what is being created at beBee is something special and at the heart of that creation is you and your team. Thank You.

Dear Fatima, words matter most when they are wrapped around something true and something with life force and the magnet is working right? And that magnetic pull around something that every comment here considers special is a continuous thing, not just a work in process, but a new reality in the making. Whether it is online here or it is in places where people are enabling this message that are not visible to us, the magnet will continue working and I want to wake up tomorrow refreshed and ready and vibrant and where the future become our present. That is the magic that circulates and as it circulates more and more magnificent minds will appear, and in my mind's eye I am welcoming also those who will come to work for beBee who on this day may not even have heard of it - but in the years to come, they also will contribute to the difference. You know my greatest value is home and when I look at this picture, this is the people at the heart of this emerging home called beBee. When the workplace is home to people who contribute to the making of the 21st Century - how greater is every other home? I cannot help reaching out and embracing tomorrow but we must learn also to hug today and this is my hug to them who make beBee possible and mindful also that we all in turn, through the work of this team, help to make it fabulous.
