Physical Intelligence - Day 20

Physical Intelligence - Day 20

Day 20 Physical

Intelligence

Time to start exploring exercises, strength training and form. To begin this I got an interesting book called Encyclopedia of Exercise Anatomy.  It is a really interesting book in that it provides pictures of exercise positions and also provides anatomical representations of that form. e.g.

CORE

CROSS-OVER CRUNCH

CROSS-OVER CRUNCH + CORE

ikeFor the first three weeks I focused solely on aerobics and the treadmill and now it is time on add greater variety, while I also proceed carefully because I have not invested in an instructor, so I continue my lay-person approach to fitness.  The encyclopedia had a very interesting quote when I checked the 60+ page, it said :

"You don't stop exercising because you get old, you get old because you stop exercising"

Hollace, Lance, Liebman from Encyclopedia of Exercise Anatomy

I thought that was a neat quote or at least neat off to log it as a part of my physical intelligence learning.  It's neatly coloured sections reminded me of my school days using the SRA Reading system.  The tabs obviously are not a reading system in this book, but each section colour represents a key theme viz :

Yellow Section :  Exercises Upper Body

Lime Section : Exercises Lower Body

Orange Section : Exercises Core

Purple Section : Stretches

Blue Section : Sports-Specific Workouts

Turquoise Section : Functional Workouts

Indigo Section : Appendix

I am finding this text interesting as a beginners guide to the body and understanding the main muscle structure of the body.  Having found this body I looked for online material and found an interesting set of you-tube videos made by Pietro Boselli.  Boselli is not just a person who provides fitness video's, he is also an engineer and former mathematics instructor from University College, London.  Quite an interesting bio.

Boselli's four minute video on Abs showed me great production value and video's that resemble what I found interesting about the Encyclopedia of Exercise Anatomy :

I am still trying to figure out why some people love this workout stuff. I am still dragging my sorry ass to the gym, but there is one thing about hitting 56, it ain't 26 and the difference is noticeable. I'd love to see pot bellied people demo this workout video's - but usually it is the fittest person imaginable. I saw a yoga video that provides a 90 degree move and I could not even do 9 degrees - at 26 I had the luxury of staying away from the gym, at 56 it is a different world.
