The Collaborative Plaform for Professionals
All I can say when I closed my bebee page is hallelujah !!!
"The Collaborative Platform for Professionals" is the kind of big picture idea that I absolutely identify with. Now I realize why we still use terms like social recruiting and social selling, because there is a dark side that is more sith than the sith when it comes the underbelly of the recruiting world and snake oil selling. Yet the broader aim of making the professional world more collaborative is highly laudable, and is also highly relevant to the 20th Century. So now that I no longer close to the words "successful personal branding' first I must emphasize the the hallelujah - and as I think about the word hallelujah, may the Spanish speaking world also embrace a short form for that word i.e. Jah! Jah! Jah! as much as Spanish people have embraced the tradition of saying Ja! Ja! Ja! :-) I must celebrate this with KD Lang's version of Leonard Cohen classic, which she sang at the Olympics :

We know that groups can create better technology and smarter collaboration that protects intellectual property and data, but like Diaspora http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2014/10/ello_diaspora_and_the_anti_facebook_why_alternative_social_networks_can.html sometimes a really good idea meets a mass-market that is easily pleased and distracted from what is really good for them. So we know that the mass market moves with a combination of learned helplessness, expediency and the bait of introducing low hanging fruit seems to keep the mass lockedin. In a niche situation like OpenWorld it really depends on the pioneers and champions in that group, but scaling remains the issue. Even LinkedIn no matter how much criticism has been leveled at them, will still cater for short-term wins, even if we know this does not benefit the user in the long-term. How the acquisition speaks is what is interesting. We are still waiting to see how Microsoft scale that locked-in mentality with their LinkedIn acquisition, people tend to forget that any LinkedIn move is a Microsoft move now. Even Apple, as much as Steve Jobs is hailed as a great entrepreneur come from the lock-in world. Yet what is disruptive about collaborative is that when early adopters capture a trend, the mass can surprise the behemoths. Not saying that will happen but when shifts do happen, they have been seismic. So far a simple trend like Instagram was spotted by Facebook before it scaled and ultimately controlled in the usual Facebook Empire way, but in boxing parlance, it is always the punch that one did not see coming that is the knock-out blow. It would be a beautiful thing to see behemoths like Facebook et al. really on their toes, and there are small signs that large digital establishments are feeling some blowback, but for now it is small in scale , mainly from people who used to work for these organizations now stating regret for controlling mindshare.
