As a special honor in memory of your 'Roxy' I have been blessed with an opportunity to pass on her lovely name to the newest addition to my family...A beautiful Australian blue heeler with amazing blue eyes...She is a new mom and still a baby herself, having been dumped in the wild to fend for herself while pregnant. 


She was picked up by an animal rescue team in Georgia and fostered throughout her pregnancy and the birth of six pups...Having them taken from her at eleven weeks, she was shipped up North to a 'no kill' shelter in Massachusetts. The same shelter I visited last week where this beautiful soul captured my heart in the blink of an eye...Those beautiful blue eyes.


So this also serves as reminder to those who adopt pets at a young age...Please, please, please have your beloved pets spayed or neutered to avoid this overpopulation unwanted babes being dumped into the wild to perish frightened and alone...

The connection between a man and his dog is truly sacred one Kim Wheeler...So beautifully reflected in your heartfelt poems. You have an animals lovers heart of gold;-) Big Foot and all of his K-9 brothers and sisters were very fortunate souls indeed!

Not having to house train a pup again is a major plus :)) I'm glad she's doing so well. They are smart dogs! She has a loving owner as her companion too!

Thanks Lisa Gallagher...She's been a real gem so far...Sleeping through the night was all I asked of her...and I could not bear the thought of potty training a pup again! She had one accident on the first day...knew immediately she wasn't to do that again;-) Very smart as she is beautiful... Those eyes are mesmerizing! Captured me with a love at first sight moment;-)

Beautiful tribute to Ian Weinberg. Dogs become part of our family. So sorry for your loss Ian . I lost my Boston Terrier in Feb of 2018. He was 15 years old and they think he had a brain tumor. There are times I still think I need to fill his bowls up with food even though they are gone. Pets have no expectations of us, they may be needy of their humans but the love they give back in return is 10 fold. Cyndi, your dog is so cute!

Thanks Cyndi wilkins. Made me think of Bean, who passed away just shy of 17 years. He was the smartest dog our family had. And, I always advise people who are going through relationship problems to get a dog, since they are the best companions.

Oh yes Ken Boddie! She has already demonstrated her 'herding' abilities with our cat Ruby...However, once the claws came out Roxy decided it was best to keep her distance;-) Lol! Fur was flying in the living room that day! I agree wholeheartedly with you and Phil about the 'puppy mill' problem...These poor souls are often raised under deplorable conditions and can become quite sick. When you adopt from a reputable shelter you know these animals are very well cared for and vaccinated and or spayed/neutered when age appropriate. My girl was spayed just before I brought her home and already micro-chipped...so those were two sizable expenses I would have incurred had a I adopted a 'pup'...Best to adopt at a year or older to avoid the night wakings typical of puppies as they are potty training;-)

Thanks for that great tip for dogs with incontinence Phil Friedman...Fortunately, Roxy seems to be well trained, with the exception of one accident on her first day with us...which we expected would happen initially as she was used to living in an outdoor enclosure where she could go at will...She was fostered throughout her pregnancy so I suspect she adapted to living in an indoor environment for that time. She is very intelligent indeed...The minute she saw my daughter she knew that was her person...She zeroed right in on us with those beautiful blue eyes and we were hooked! I truly believe it is the pets that choose their owners;-) I agreed to having a dog only if we adopted a rescue. These animals know when they have been rescued and are the most loyal and grateful beings on the planet. The only difficulty we are having with her at this time is her fear anxiety...Poor girl is traumatized and terrified of the outside world. I am the only one who can attempt to walk her as she goes into panic attacks at the slightest noise or quick movements...It will take her some time to feel safe, but we're working on it;-)

Beautiful poem selection, Cyndi, and an apt tribute to old mate, Ian Weinberg, and the recent loss of his treasured Roxy. Blue heelers (also known as Australian cattle dogs) are very protective of family members, but also have a natural instinct to herd. So if you have any errant children (I believe your daughter may now be a bit old) they tend to keep then in check by lightly nipping at their heels. Good on ya, Cyndi, for 'saving' her from an animal shelter and not getting her from a pet shop where, in many countries, they have links to cruel puppy production lines.

Also, Cyndi wilkins, a reminder to try the animal shelters and rescue organizations before buying a puppy or a dog at breeder (and never at a pet store which is likely dealing with a puppy mill). My last two dogs were rescues and they could not have been better or more loyal companions and members of our family. Smart too. If I may, Cyndi and Bill Stankiewicz, \ud83d\udc1d Brand Ambassador, here's a tip about something I learned about older dogs. The last little guy who passed was nearly 16 and had been suffering with a level of urinary incontinence that was driving us crazy. There was nothing we or the little guy could do about it. Until we ran across what is called a "belly band" -- a stretchy wrap with a velcro closure, into which you can place an appropriately sized feminine pad. Voila. He adapted to it within a few hours. Still went for walks and to relieve himself outdoors (when we'd take the rig off). But it the house, no muss, no fuss, no impatience or frustration, and no shame on the dog's part. (You know, if they're well house trained they hate messing inside.) I recommend the solution highly for anyone with an aged dog. Cheers!

Wishing you peace in your heart Ian Weinberg...My Roxy is already serving as my 'heeler' by forcing me to get moving on a very painful knee I have been reluctant to rehab...Where I prefer wrapping it in ice on plopping my fanny on the couch, she does not accept any excuses when it comes to going for her daily walks;-)
