My Latest Book: Marriage, Merriment, and Madness:
After counseling couples for over 40 years, I thought that I should put down in writing what real couples go through behind closed doors.
You hear about people “doing counseling” but really, you never hear the nitty-gritty.
When I first started helping individuals and couples years ago, even with my training, it was an eye-opener.
You have to have nerves of steel, the ability to confront the dark side of your fellow man, and above all enormous care, admiration, and love for your fellow man.
You cannot counsel or coach people when they are experiencing everything from rage to futility right in front of you unless you have compassion and understanding.
And despite the fireworks, these people were deeply in love when things started.
See, I never forget that.
My latest book is not just for couples in trouble.
It is for every couple who wants their marriage or relationship to win.
And you know, it takes courage to face the demons in yourself and those of your partner.
It takes courage to love when it’s toughest to love.
I think our own Lisa Gallagher says it best in her review of my book here:
“I had the pleasure of reading Dave Worthen’s book, Marriage, Merriment and Madness.
Dave’s writing has a way of capturing the reader and it’s hard to put the book down.
As I read the book, I laughed, cried and could relate to so much he walked the reader through. Many lessons contained within the book if you are a willing listener.
Every aspect of Dave’s book spoke to me but one chapter in particular seemed as though he was speaking directly at me, the chapter on Courage. Dave walks the reader through why it is you need the courage to talk to your spouse in order to enhance your marriage. Courage is healthy, and it’s conveyed well in this chapter. So many of us would rather avoid talking about issues that may inflame the other but that only delays good communication, it stifles us and that’s what I took away from this chapter.
Dave is an honest and raw writer. I honestly recommend this book for those who are in relationships and thinking of marriage, I also recommend Dave’s book for any married couple, no matter how wonderful you think your marriage is, it serves to enhance your relationship after reading Dave’s book. I promise, you won’t feel mad after reading the book but you may see the madness that can stifle a good relationship which Dave walks the reader through.”
