Why Love is the Best Medicine
This is a topic very near and dear to my heart, my daily life, my future, and the change I want to be in the world. I was intending on sharing this to Sara Jacobovici's "What Words Mean to Me" hive just as soon as I saw it on LI via Emilia Ludovino.
Many people would see this as just a simple little aphorism with a nugget of truth. But in reality there are some incredibly sound biochemical reasons that just about all chronic disease will be improved by love. Of course, getting run over by a bus is a different sort of medical emergency. Our western medical establishment is fabulous at repairing acute, physical problems, but utterly inept, right now, at having effective answers for chronic disease. Here is why:
Chronic disease is a function of a mis-aligned nervous system, in so far as the disease symptoms, medical options, and even the thought processes around being diagnosed put each person into sympathetic mode. You know, fight or flight or freeze. (That last bit about freeze is way more crucial that we realize when we leave it off for brevity's sake.) Now there are myriad ways in which each person's body moves out of health, resulting in the wide variety of actual diseases we suffer from, but disease becomes chronic as a function of being triggered out of parasympathetic - HEALING - mode by the day to day experience of a disease which can easily make a person feel fear of being under attack by their very own body and their daily circumstances.

Love is the antidote to fear. That makes Love a very powerful catalyst to healing.
Love has to be applied liberally, constantly, and with as much dedication as possible. Love can come from inside ourselves, our family, our community, our beliefs, our imagination. Love propagates parasympathetic nervous system responses and healing can only occur in this baseline state. Even a slight bit of panic will cause dopamine to be converted to noradrenaline and adrenaline and normal physiological processing with be hijacked in an ever escalating cycle. Calm peace along with vigorous loving action is how we initiate the journey to wellness.
The journey to wellness begins with practicing Love right now.
Give it, feel it when it is given to you, luxuriate in it, celebrate it. Feel love suffuse every molecule of your body. It could easily be said your very life depends on exercising your love capacity.
