WHY BOTHER?-by Devesh Bhatt

WHY BOTHER?-by Devesh Bhatt

8a4122ec.jpg

I despise,

The chaos,

When i dwell,

In the horrors,

Of circumstance.

With order,

Reduced,

To redundancy,

Of Rants,

Or brainless chants.

Did we,

Weather,

Adversity,

To fabricate,

A suicidal trance?

Decaying,

On sediment,

Of sentiment.

A sly fossil,

With a lively stance.

I loathe,

Deception,

When i think,

The influence,

Rationality grants.

And forethought,

Is a careless,

Paradox

Of the selfless,

With a greedy prance.

Did we,

Impart,

Awareness,

To theorize,

Pre emptive plans?

Displaying,

Pretence,

Of deterrents,

Sabotaging,

Our own advance.

I grieve,

My passion,

When i see,

The excesses,

Built by,

My hand.

When society,

Restricts,

Potential,

As an unyielding,

Quicksand.

Did we,

Forge,

Liberty,

With compelling,

Biased implants?

Greying,

Our sense,

With exigence,

Justifying our,

Every chance.

I languish,

In contempt,

When i feel,

What i try,

To understand.

With action,

Refused,

By compliance.

An imitation,

Of the Bland.

Did we,

Abet,

Vigilance,

For others,

To be damned?

Swaying,

Prevalence,

For precedence,

Hypocrisy,

Has us programmed.

I devour,

My reflection,

When i know,

It has,

A piercing glance.

Observations,

Seem futile,

And treachorous,

As we chance,

Our turbid expanse.

Did we,

Formulate,

Righteousness,

As an unreal,

Complex demand?

Weighing,

The essence,

Of decadence,

Where morality,

Is contraband.

Writing a 200 word English poem feels very exhausting and long for me.

i think that we all fear uncertainity to a certain extent. It gets aggregated in our collective fears and we try quash all the influencers of free thinking to bring uniformity and reduce uncertainity. Somehow for those who manage to think and move beyond this, somehow the certainity of society for a predictable adversary. It is few unpredictable individuals within this adverse system that we need to worry about and such individuals flock to money and power centres. We think about complete systems while the corrupt think about loopholes , it is focused and the possibilities of results is greater. I was wondering how a dent could serve as a loophole and break the chain of adversity, what is that one thing beyond the financial or political influence, can there be systems which invite participation and before people know it, the problems are redundant. I have seen people in the most hopeless and helpless of circumstances come out of it. Poor countries have more of these examples. I get a conjoint doze of the pain and the cure. But i am unable to present them together in a writing piece. They get separated to avoid confusion. Personally, i think you are the most touching writer i have read in recent times.

you pick up something that i like to reflect on the most thanks.
I recently met a sociology professor who said she no longer wanted to be part of the human race and saw only one way out. It is so hard to effect real change with such a devastating race running rampant over the world. Your words touch me as hers did.

I feel the drain this wrought on you. Well said, though the observations are uncomfortable and the resolution chilling.

Must admit that deep inside (very deep inside) im a nihilist ... And its the "WHY" I force myself into focusing on social and other things with the force of crystal focusing the rays of the SUN.... To not think of the reality... The sad reality... Of what is truly going on all around us.. To embrace the "UN-Reality" ... What I want to say is... This.... Poem.... is... Truly... BRILLIANT...

Very well constructed poem. Agree with Alan Culler, some really neat turns of phrase. I am not a fan of dark poetry but the quality of the flow of words is very good.

good to know the derivation, Davesh, but I'm still going to use the phrase with my grandchildren in the same way that Clarence Tom Ashley used to say ".I'm an old man, but I still kick around pretty keen yet."

Thanks a lot. The sly fossil is actually a reference to the standing fossils of tree trunks . Its a mystery how they end up upright and look alive standing on sediment but they are actually fossils . Sunderbans are an example here. Maybe a swampland there.

Devesh \ud83d\udc1d Bhatt It may be difficult, but the effort is definitely worth it. so many great turns of phrase -"Forge, Liberty, With compelling, Biased implants" "The essence, Of decadence, Where morality, Is contraband" and I think I will forever after self-identify as " A sly fossil with a lively stance." Keep creating with your gift Devesh -you enrich us all.
