BIBLE STUDY MEETING

BIBLE STUDY MEETING

Jesus said:

But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice:

for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 9:13 [1898 Young’s Literal translation]

Everything that follows in these handbooks must be considered in the light of the above scripture, and it would do well to remember that Christians also commit sin.

Having experienced mercy it will be our joy to do the spiritual sacrifices detailed in the handbooks.

BIBLE STUDY

TRESPASS OFFERING

FEAST OF TRUMPETS MEETING

"But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin."

1 John 1:7

The trespass offering is a compulsory offering and this sacrifice is obligatory.

The New Testament equivalent is the acceptance of sanctification by believers.

In Leviticus 5, 6:1 - 7, 7:1 -10, we find the trespass/guilt offering in which blood and flesh atone for the trespass. We will look at these scriptures further on in this handbook.

*In the BIBLE STUDY MEETING - all the brethren study together before God.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and correctly handles the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15. [New International Version]

All scripture is God - breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16, 17. [New International Version]

We need to remember that the Holy Spirit is our Teacher to bring us to full knowledge of God and so we look at a set of scriptures to enable and describe that: -

"I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever - the Spirit of truth.

But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14:16, 26. [New International Version]

`And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are afar off - for all whom the Lord our God will call."

Acts 2:38b, 39. [New International Version]

While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work which I have called them."

When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

Acts 13:2, 16:6. [New International Version]

`to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:16. [New International Version]

`.......because from the beginning God chose you to be saved by the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:13. [New International Version]

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all

2 Corinthians 13:14. [New International Version]

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.

Acts 20:28. [New International Version]

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19. [New International Version]

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17. [New International Version]

"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

John 7:38,39a. [New International Version]

Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:17. [New International Version]

As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he came on us at the beginning.

Acts 11.15. [New International Version]

Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

1 Corinthians 3:16. [New International Version]

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you received from God.........?

1 Corinthians 6:19. [New International Version]

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace, as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17, 15:13. [New International Version]

When the Counsellor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, he will testify about me; but you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

John 15:26. [New International Version]

See also 1 Corinthians 12, 13, 14. Read and internalize 12:4 -8.

- The real purpose of this meeting is to provide for reconciliation

And so there needs to be restitution between God and man.

`Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Matthew 6:12. [New International Version]

In this meeting:

- We have speaking, discussing, raising questions & explanations.

- We ask questions to provoke discussion.

- We come to serve the Body of Christ not merely to hear a message.

- The goal is sanctification; to make holy, purify or consecrate

- Mentally, we need to venerate or hallow the Lord.

- Also see Colossians 4:16, 1 Thessalonians 5:27, and

We can see these thoughts in the following scripture: -

`They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Acts 2:42; also Acts 15:21, 30, and 31. [New International Version]

To help us sort out the problem areas in our lives, let us look at the following: -

Sin = to fall short of the mark.

Trespass = to overstep the mark.

Iniquity = lawlessness.

Transgression = to cut across.

-We need to understand that God wants our attitude and hearts right; He is far more concerned about our attitudes, than our actions. He will help us put our attitudes and hearts right - by bringing people and circumstances into our lives.

Now, trespass requires restitution, and Leviticus 5 & 6 lists 10 trespasses from two aspects that need restitution: -

The way that Christians overstep the mark and commit trespasses against their fellow believers are as follows: -

"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: `Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'

The second is this: `Love your neighbour as yourself.'

There is no commandment greater than these."

Mark 12:29-31[New International Version]

Category 1 - against God and our conscience; these trespasses are just as true as they were then.

*Requires restitution to God - trespass offering

# 1. Concealing truth Leviticus 5:1 = Matthew 5:23, 24. [New International Version]

"If a person sins because he does not speak up when he hears a public charge to testify regarding something he has seen or learned about, he will be held responsible.'

"Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave the gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

# 2. Defilement Leviticus 5:2, 3 = Matthew 7:6. [New International Version]

"Or if a person touches anything ceremonially unclean - whether the carcasses of unclean wild animals or of unclean livestock or unclean or of unclean creatures that move along the ground - even though he is unaware of it, he has become unclean and is guilty.

Or if he touches human uncleanness - anything that would make him unclean - even though he is unaware of it, when he learns of it he will be guilty.

"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.'

# 3. Making rash vows Leviticus 5:4 = Matthew 5:33-37. [New International Version]

"Or if a person thoughtlessly takes an oath to do anything, whether good or evil - in any matter one might carelessly swear about - even though he is unaware of it, in any case when he learns of it he will be guilty.

"Again you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, `Do not break your oath but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord. But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your `Yes' be `Yes' and your `No,' `No'; anything beyond that comes from the evil one.'

# 4. Ignorance of holy things Leviticus 5:15 = 1 Timothy 1:13, 14. [New International Version]

"When a person commits a violation and sins unintentionally in regard of the Lord's holy things, he is to bring to the Lord as a penalty a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value in silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. He must make restitution for what he has failed to do in regard to holy things, add a fifth of the value to that and give it all to the priest, who will make atonement for him with the ram as a guilt offering, and he will be forgiven.'

`Even though I once was a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.'

# 5. Ignorantly breaking commandments

Leviticus 5:17 = Matthew 5:19 [New International Version]

"If a person sins and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord's commands, even though he does not know it, he is guilty and will be held responsible. He is to bring to the priest as a guilt offering a ram from the flock, one without a defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will atonement for him for the wrong he has committed unintentionally, and he will be forgiven. It is a guilt offering, he has been guilty of wrongdoing against the Lord.'

"Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practises and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.'

Category 2 - against men

*Requires restitution to men and God - trespass offering

# 1. Failures in trust

Leviticus 6:2 = Matthew 5:23, 24. [New International Version]

If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord by deceiving his neighbour about something entrusted to him or left in his care or stolen, or if he cheats him, or if he finds lost property and lies about it, or he swears falsely......

# 2. Unfairness in partnership

Leviticus 6:2 = Matthew 5:23, 24. [New International Version]

If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord by deceiving his neighbour about something entrusted to him or left in his care or stolen, or if he cheats him, or if he finds lost property and lies about it, or he swears falsely.......

# 3. Taking by violence

Leviticus 6:2, 4 = Matthew 5:23, 24[New International Version]

If anyone sins................., he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion...

# 4. Deception

Leviticus 6:2 = Matthew 5:23, 24[New International Version]

If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord by deceiving his neighbour about something.............

# 5. Keeping things found

Leviticus 6:3 = Matthew 5:23, 24[New International Version]

If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord.................if he finds lost property and lies about it, or he swears falsely......

All these above issues are covered in the Matthew 5:23, 24 scripture below: -

"Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave the gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

REMEDY:

CONFESSION

Leviticus 5:5[New International Version]

And it shall be when he is guilty of one of these, then he shall confess that in which he

has sinned.

And so -If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 1:9, 10. [New International Version]

"Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.............. For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Matthew 6:12, 14, 15. [New International Version]

.....But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 2:1b, 2[New International Version]

Restitution - to God

- To men where applicable

"Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave the gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

Matthew 5:23, 24. [New International Version]

But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God's Son, purges all our sin

1 John 1:7. [New International Version]

THERE SHOULD BE TIME GIVEN TO MAKE RIGHT WITH THE LORD IN TERMS OF THE TRESPASSES MENTIONED ABOVE.

The Teacher should have major input into this area in terms of `equipping' the saints `to do the work of ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church).'

READ AND INTERNALIZE ROMANS 7:4 TO 8:39

Jesus said: -

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5:17 - 20.

The local Church needs to meet on church ground - that is wherever the Church meets, wherever the Body of Christ manifests, and to build a stronghold - everything that the Body of Christ stands for; to help with -

`The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.

[1 John 3:8b]

What is the responsibility of the brethren?

Each brother or sister must not only bear the responsibility of the local meeting/cell group, but also consider all the brothers and sisters who are in Christian fellowship throughout the earth.

INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM/FUNCTION WITH CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

....., to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - their Lord and ours: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:2, 3, Also 1 Thessalonians 1:6, 7, 2:14.
