The purpose of this prologue is to give expression to the underlying thought of the 5 meetings

Jesus said:

But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice:

for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 9:13 [1898 Young’s Literal translation]

Everything that follows in these handbooks must be considered in the light of the above scripture, and it would do well to remember that Christians also commit sin --- the word being derived from the term ‘hamartia’ which is an archery term meaning to miss the mark as we mature and grow.

Having experienced mercy which is the goal that Jesus wants; it will be our joy to do the spiritual sacrifices detailed in the handbooks.

The Church Body in a geographical locality is used to express the life of the Body of Christ,

and the gifts in the Church Body are used to express the ministry of its members.

What is the responsibility of the brethren of the Body of Christ?

....., to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - their Lord and ours: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:2, 3, [New International Version]

...and ye--ye did become imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much

tribulation, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

so that ye became patterns to all those believing in Macedonia and Achaia,

for ye became imitators, brethren, of the assemblies of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus, because such things ye suffered, even ye, from your own countrymen, as also they from the Jews,

1 Thessalonians 1:6, 7,- 2:14. [1898 Young’s Literal Translation]

So each brother or sister must not only bear the responsibility of the local meeting – fellowships, cell group or home meeting, but also consider all the brothers and sisters who are in Christian fellowship throughout the earth.

So we need

to make it all possible.

We find in the chart below further contextualization in summary form of the spiritual sacrifices, the offerings and the five-fold ministry.

` also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.' 1 Peter 2:5. offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship...

..., we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7.

The Offerings adapted from a table by Steve Wheeler

Thus we can see there is a direct correlation between the Moses tabernacle offerings in the Old Testament and doing the spiritual sacrifices in the New Testament, which then means that it would be advisable to do the spiritual sacrifices.

The way to keep our anointing jar filled is to be part of the on-going life of the Church as the chart shows below. The Holy Spirit and Jesus enable the Father’s Will in us. The relationship of the meetings, gifts and ministries are shown in the chart below. What matches with what, where and when and how?

12 31 But eagerly desire {Or But you are eagerly desiring} the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.

13:1 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12b:31, 13:1

Because of the Father’s great Love, the work of God is to increase His Son, and He does this through a Personal Christ, as a triumphal Head of the Corporate Body of Christ, as he led His enemy captive. Christ is the Head, the Church is the Body. Christ plus the Church is the Corporate Christ.

His Work by the Holy Spirit is to establish the Church – The Body of Christ, by founding churches: cell groups, everywhere there are people. He does this by manifesting His authority through His Body the Church; giving gifts to men,

--- which are the 5-fold ministries as given in the 4th Chapter of Ephesians and they are

    the Apostle,

    the Prophet,

    the Pastor;

    the Evangelist and

    the Teacher

as well as through the paraclete [Greek ‘parakletos’ --- called in aid] gifts given by the Holy Spirit,

such as the gifts of faith,

the interpretation of tongues,

discerning of spirits,

gifts of healing,

word of wisdom

and word of knowledge,

to the whole body of Christ. The purpose of these gifts is to extend the Kingdom of God; by first making the Body of Christ healthy, then taking the fight to the enemy, the antichrist here on the earth.

Christ is committed to building the Body of Christ until all who comprise it arrive at the unity of the faith, and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, until they attain unto the measure of their stature of the fullness of Christ.

God has many works 5 fold and in His service are many ministries; either core 5 fold ministries, or 5 fold in development ministries, and also core 5 fold ministries each with a different emphasis. A ministry is that piece of work that which God has called someone to do. The number of people within the 5 fold ministries is very great because of the variations on the central theme of that particular ministry, since God works with people in many and all areas of life.

`In him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and who have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long promised Holy Spirit. That (Spirit) is the guarantee of our inheritance - the first fruit, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage - in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring (complete possession of it, to the praise of His glory.'

Ephesians 1:13, 14. [Amplified Bible]

`But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.

Ephesians 4:7. [New International Version]

The 5-fold ministries are gifts given to the corporate Body of Christ by Jesus Christ; whereas the Paraclete gifts are gifts to individuals by the Holy Spirit. What the Paraclete gifts are, are given in considerable detail in Romans chapter 12, and 1 Corinthians 12 in the Bible.

The following comments below of the Work of the 5 – fold ministry and their interaction with the cell groups; are with acknowledgement to, and adapted from Watchmen Nee’s 3 volume series of THE CHURCH AND THE WORK.

Since churches: cell groups founded in the Work of the 5-fold ministry are the result of the Work: 5 fold they cannot possibly include it. So how does the Work: 5-fold fit into the situation?

Churches: cell groups are always only local, and nothing outside the locality must interfere with anything beyond that sphere. Local men who, on account of their comparative spiritual maturity, chosen because of their potential for their obedience to the Lord, not because of their learning or their apparent ability, have been appointed elders must manage local Church affairs and eldership can only be expressed locally in the area where they live, chosen because of their potential for their obedience to the Lord, not because of their learning or their apparent ability However, continuous contact must be maintained with the ‘companies’ of ministers of the 5 fold ministry in order for the saints to be ‘equipped’ so that they can do the work of the Church and grow to become 5 fold ministers themselves.

The Work: 5 fold belongs to the 5 fold ministry, whilst the churches: cell groups belong to the local believers. The 5 fold ministry manage the Work: 5 fold; the elders manage the church: cell groups; eldership is limited to the locality in which they live.

Presbuteros’ an old man, a person advanced in years, an elder, also known as bishop ‘Episkopoi’ or overseers [a man charged with the duty of seeing that things to be done by others are done rightly, any curator, guardian or superintendent]; thus in the Christian Church, those older men [55 years or older] who, being raised up and qualified by the work of the Holy Spirit, are appointed to have the spiritual care of, and to exercise oversight over, the area local churches. They are to have maturity of spiritual experience. To be appointed as they give evidence of fulfilling the divine qualification of spiritual maturity. Special note should be taken of I Timothy 5:17 – 20.

The qualifications for Elders are clearly given in the detail and scriptures below:

[A function in the local church/cell groups]

The involvements of the elders with the saints should be on the basis of - `The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honour, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching as they become the mouthpiece of the Lord.. For the Scripture says,

The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honour, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.

For the Scripture says, "Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,"……….

Deuteronomy. 25:4 [New International Version]

and "The worker deserves his wages."

Luke 10:7 [New International Version]

Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.

Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.

1 Timothy 5:17 - 20 [New International Version]

Elders in turn are appointed `with prayer and fasting' and `committing them to the Lord' by the apostles as they move around establishing local churches in the various communities. There is no sense in which the apostles `control' the elders or the local churches. Rather, it is on a basis of

`strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith.'

Acts 14:22, 23. [New International Version]

`An Elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless - not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given too much wine, not violent, not pursuing dies-honest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.'

Titus 1:6 - 9. [New International Version]

Elders are `overseers' in the sense of taking care of the believers. .....`They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.

....Hebrews 13:17. [New International Version]

They give expression to the scripture `come unto me and I will give you rest.'

Elders take care of all matters concerning meetings and preaching; and also coordinate with the five fold ministries.

Elders are also responsible for the writing of commendatory letters.

News of what is happening in the Christian world is also given via the Elders of the local Church to all believers.

`The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James and all the elders were present. Paul greeted them and reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.'

Acts 21:18, 19. [New International Version]

[A function in the local church/cell group]

Deacons form the focus for the ministry of helps in the Church.

In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against those of the Aramaic- speaking community because their widows were being overlooked in the distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.

This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procurus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

Acts 6:1 - 8. [New International Version]

To render any kind of service’ and implies ‘to minister’ as well; and thus implies a preparation for ministry, if the person so desires. The deacons area of function covers the day-to-day activities of the local Church/cell group/home fellowships where the 5 church meetings form the basis of all other activities. They may also assist in the Celebration Service.

Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.

They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.

They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

In the same way, their wives {Or way, deaconesses} are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.

Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 3:8 – 13 New International Version]

So the Work of deacons can be found wherever `help' is needed and the following are just some examples: -

*** The management of Church finance.

*** The management of the Church administration, office & records.

*** The management of correspondence and documents.

*** The management of everything connected with food.

*** The management of relief of all kinds, for instance, to flood and fire victims, assistance in needy

*** Distribution of relief to the unbelieving poor, the establishment of gainful employment, etc, etc.

*** The management of all transport and arrangements, for instance, for the sending off & meeting those brothers and sisters who travel from one place to another as they minister. The deacons also arrange accommodation for them.

*** The management of assistance to and in needy homes.

*** The management & preparation and cleaning up of meeting places - arriving early enough, and staying late enough to do so!

*** In fact anything and everything that constitutes `HELP'.

*** Management/manage here is used in terms of its true meaning [organize, administrate efficiently] and has nothing to do with `status'.

And as this scripture says

`The greatest among you will be your servant.'

Matthew 23:11. [New International Version]
