WHAT ARE THE 5 FIVE-FOLD MEETINGS ABOUT?
The five meetings form a pattern for a way of life in God's kingdom, and are not rituals, but are a means to train us to function with God's patterns in our daily lives. It demonstrates the absolute necessity of the Five-fold Ministries played out on an inter-active basis. The inter-active part is where we arrive at an understanding of the heart and anointing of ministries that are not our own, and how we can flow in unity of heart, Spirit and mind.
* The Covenant meeting is under the care of the apostolic anointing. The function there is to train and equip the saints; and also keep the saints focused on the symbolic Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies.
***An Apostle is only ever described as `special messenger'. [See Apostle Amplification in the Amplified Bible]. There is absolutely no mention of `I will set myself above'!
How do we define special messenger? We look at what the situation was with regard to the Apostles in Jesus time.
The function of special messenger is rooted in years of intimate knowledge, dearly bought experience, and intensive training. Implied in this function is the commission to witness by the Holy Spirit, whose witness it is, by word and sign, to the risen Jesus Christ and His completed Work. The essential quality displayed is the one `did not think that Glory was something to be grasped, but made Himself as nothing `to redeem mankind’.'
These qualities will be evident in the life of the Minister who is now called by the Holy Spirit to be an Apostle in a particular area. He will be called to be, and do these things in that area.
The Apostle must have touched all the other ministries; although they would have been focused in a particular ministry.
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But eagerly desire the greater gifts.
1 Corinthians 12:29-31
* The Prayer meeting is under the care of the prophetic anointing. The function there is to train and equip the saints; and also keep the saints focused on the symbolic Table of Shewbread in the Holy Place.
The prophet Interprets the divine will and purpose, with inspired revelation, through inspired preaching and expounding, as well as inspired teaching.
However, there is a clear difference between inspired teachings by revelation in the spur of the moment; as compared to the teacher's gift of
`Clarifying’ truth and giving it structure and order. The prophet has the motivation to reveal unrighteous motives or actions by presenting God's truth.
Prophets tend to be loners, and find it difficult to accept team ministry.
The complimentary ministry for a prophet is the pastor, but the prophet is inclined to see only black and white in everything, so he struggles with the pastor's ministry, which has so many shades of grey. A pastors motivation is one of love, which will tend to look over and past sin, and whose anointing is to minister to `wounded soldiers', whilst the prophet wishes to root out sin.
The prophet also finds evangelists too loose, but prophets need to understand that evangelists have a different anointing to theirs. The prophet finds the teacher too hide-bound and confining. The prophet/pastor and prophet/evangelist combinations don't like ministering together, mainly because they often don't understand one another. However, they all need to capture each other’s spirit; which is required for balance in ministry.
The Worship meeting is under the care of the pastoral anointing. The function there is to train and equip the saints; and also keep the saints focused on the symbolic Altar of Incense in the Holy Place.
They are a Shepherd of Jesus’ flock. They will guard and watch over the flock. The motivation to demonstrate love by meeting practical needs. Their gift flows best through deeds rather than words. They seem to `see' what needs to be done and are gifted with their hands and equipped with physical stamina, and a disregard for weariness. They enjoy manual projects and will work until finished. They want to meet the needs quickly and will even use personal funds to avoid delays. They want to see a job done, so will do much extra work. However they must guard against in getting involved in excess activity, as they find it difficult to say no. They are people who `feel' a great deal. This gift encompasses compassion, pity, gentleness and forbearance; with the aim of helping people by empathizing with them, and doing good things with them. Their special gift is to `feel' or sense where people are, and are able to reach out in a supportive or compassionate way. Like the giving gift, people with this gift of mercy are quick to detect insincerity; their spirit is closed to the insensitive or hard-hearted. Their gift of mercy is compassion in action
They have the anointing to bring stability to a Church; and to reduce problems within the body of Christ. Love covers a multitude of sins, and people will forgive their weaknesses. They won't initially understand the need for a prophet, and will be worried how the prophet speaks to the flock, because avoidance of firmness may appear as weakness and indecisiveness on their part. Sensitivity to the spirit and the feelings of others make them appear to be guided by emotion instead of logic. Attraction and understanding of those in distress may be misinterpreted by the opposite sex; sensitivity to words and actions that cause hurt may also appear to be taking up another’s offence. Their ability to detect insincere motives may also cause some to feel the pastor is hard to get to know.
* The Good News meeting is under the care of the evangelical anointing. The function there is to train and equip the saints; and also to keep the saints focused on the symbolic Gate and Brazen Altar in the courtyard.
Preachers of the Gospel - traveling missionaries. Anointed to bring repentance to people through presenting the goodness of God by means of the Good News of the Gospel. Has the motivation to stimulate the faith of others.
An evangelist will birth a church, but cannot bring the people within the church to maturity. They must work with an Apostle who is anointed to raise up leaders in the local Church. Acts 8:5-14 shows that when Philip the evangelist had success in Samaria, that the apostles Peter and John were sent there to help Philip establish a Church.
Evangelists deliver babies but cannot feed them properly. An evangelist working alone will think he is a failure because he is losing a lot of people because of this, and can't hold a big Church. The person he needs most is a teacher to feed his flock and a pastor to guide and love them. The last person an evangelist likes to work with is a teacher; he thinks they are too bookish and uncaring.
They, like the prophets, have a tendency to be loners, and find it difficult to accept team ministry. They need, like the other ministries, to function as part of a corporate team to achieve balance in their ministry. If they do not function connected to a local Church, then the people saved, will have nobody to help them to grow spiritually once the evangelist has left.
* The Bible Study is under the care of the teacher anointing. The function there is to train and equip the saints; and also to keep the saints focused on the symbolic Brazen Laver and Golden Candlestick.
Clarifying truth for the purposes of indoctrination in God's Word and His commandments. Believers can mistake impartation of information as ‘teaching’. Unless truth is being ‘clarified’, no teaching is taking place.
They have the ability to impart knowledge, and lead others into revealed truth. Teachers are indispensable to the Body of Christ, as they provide the ammunition with which the other ministries can wage their war against evil with greater success. [Acts 18:27] Theirs is very much a ministry of `watering' rather than `planting'. [1 Corinthians 3:6]
Their ministry follows on from the Apostles, prophets & evangelists in order to lay a foundation of the `Word'. Unless balanced by the other ministries, emphasis on scriptural illustrations and interpretation can neglect its practical application. Research can make them appear dependent on books than on the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. The teacher should enjoy the fruits of the evangelist’s ministry; along with the evangelist, because this ministry brings in new souls for him to teach.
Teachers, who are not team orientated, would not choose an evangelist to co-operate with, as their ministries operate at opposite ends of the spectrum. Teachers who do not understand the functions of inter-active ministry would be tempted to regard evangelists as flashy, loud and unknowledgeable as these people often feel that details of research may appear unnecessary to the listeners. Teachers need pastors to stabilise the flock; and they need prophets to bring the anointing of the spirit to the people.
Usually has a sensitive/analytical temperament, self-sacrificing, gifted, perfectionist. The introvert, thinker, creative, very high standards, sensitive to others.
The whole result of all 5 meetings will be to enable the saints to live righteous lives on a daily basis as symbolized in the white linen [symbolic meaning righteousness] of the fence in the Tabernacle of Moses.
