Do we ever forget where we came from…?

Do we ever forget where we came from…?

There are many people in the world who have struggled to have a better future, and they have accomplished it by hard work, dedication, sacrifices, and by the help of others. A great number of these people have made it big in business, and in the media and entertainment industries to name a few. I have tremendous respect and admiration for these people who are genuinely authentic, people who happily acknowledge their family and cultural roots, and who never forget where they come from.

Readers may remember I wrote my first book, ‘Freedom after the Sharks’, this was a non-fiction book on the tribulations of my life, from birth to entrepreneur, detailing the emotions of what being a child can really entail, I recall the first time I ran away from home, people have always said to me ‘you have always held an old head on young shoulders’, it is funny how you remember these statements.

I recently purchased a DVD from Amazon called Lion. The story of Lion, is up for six Oscars, including best picture, it tells the story of how, in 1986, Saroo, an illiterate, impoverished five-year-old in rural central India, got separated from his brother at a railway station in Burhanpur, and accidentally ended up alone on a train that took him almost a thousand miles to Kolkata (then called Calcutta). Unable to speak Bengali, and unaware of the name of his home town, he had no way to return. He lived as a street urchin and survived on his wits and scraps of food. He was later taken in by an orphanage, and was eventually adopted by an Australian couple, Sue and John Brierley, who took him to start a new life in Tasmania.

Thank you Matt for your great comments and contribution, I agree, you do not need a large number of friends but you need the trust of a friend that will enrich your life. Having positive relationships are a huge contributing factor to a healthy life with happiness. Your health is your happiness!

"It is very important to have people in your life who you love and trust, people that you can reach out to for advice and to keep a reality check on how you are coping with life" - It is a hard thing to do but if you can find one friend, who you can trust, who can tell you when you are messing up or be there to support you, you will enrich your life. Positive relationships are the biggest contributing factor to longevity and happiness. Great Buzz!

Truly Lisa, this is so upsetting, I support a charity called LOVE146 https://love146.org/ that is doing so many amazing projects in this space in support of the children.

What's scary Geoff Hudson-Searle is all the human trafficking today. Kids/Teens run away never to be seen again because they are kidnapped by traffickers. This is an important topic.

Hi Lisa \ud83d\udc1d Gallagher thank you for your very kind comments, this important subject is a particular push button with my own circumstances, finally I was brought up by my incredible Grandparents it was a miraculous ordeal and when you have survived to tell the story, I completely concur and resonate with your friend, the prospective through a painful experience that you live with is one that your own children will never experience. Thank you for sharing the details of your friend. Have a great week!

Geoff Hudson-Searle, great buzz! Such an important topic you touched on. I had a friend who ran away from home at the age of 15 to Guatemala. She's from a Latino family and in her family the boys were special, girls weren't. i'm not sure if that was her perception or part of the culture back then. Her mom's relatives lived in Guatemala and she stayed with cousins. She returned at some point but I can't imagine the horror her parents faced while she was gone. This happened in the 70's. She and her father sadly, never had a close or good relationship. I can say, she raised her own children differently and they were all treated special. Thanks for this!
