To the Quiet Bees

To the Quiet Bees

039a9aca.jpg

Looking at view counts, there must be many who read posts quietly but don’t show engagement.

I am making a friendly call to the quiet bees out there.

Your engagement is valued - in whatever form. I believe all have something to contribute. You might have a different angle, even if it’s only different by a degree, it helps broaden the conversation and enrich the content.

Consider the following - with a few songs to encourage you.

1. Give it a relevant

Even if you find just a part of a post interesting or insightful, why not click on the little icon below and mark it relevant? It could be relevant to you in many ways. Maybe it made you think. Maybe it made you wonder. Maybe just an interesting read. A quick click of the relevant icon - authors appreciate it.

Enrique Iglesias - I Like It

2. Leave a comment

Perhaps a step better, or in addition to a relevant, say that you liked the post or what you disagree with. Or mention you found it a good read, a great post, an insightful piece, and entertaining article. Better still, mention why you found it so. Best of all, say what your view is or elaborate on some themes in the post.

Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson - Say, say, say

3. Share and share again

Sharing an article is a mark of endorsement. Share into one of the larger hives, or share so that it moves up on the homepage stream. Sharing a post brings it to a wider audience and increases chances of further engagement.

Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine

4. Write a comment post

If your comments on a certain post are extensive, why not put it in a post of its own – with reference to the person and post you are commenting on? Building on or even critiquing (politely) gives color and vibrancy to the platform.

Dire Straits - Lady Writer

5. Dare to write a post

I say “dare” because it can be daunting to put yourself out there. Especially if it is your first post. It was for me. But take a little leap. BeBee posts need not be long - 200 words and up. Tell about yourself, an opinion you have, insight gained through a particular experience, a poem, a collation of things interesting to you. Different perspectives help others understand better. Tell your story. People are listening.

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years (Say it Loud, Say it Clear)

Great questions, Milos Djukic. Perhaps quiet Bees would be less quiet and contribute to the conversation if there were strictly oriented professional groups for interacting with like-minded professionals. I know for sure that I am becoming more and more quiet engineer. :)

Ok, I will be brutally honest, as usual. I have seven questions with no definitive nor provisional answers : 1. What is really crucial for motivating an engineer, different professionals, scholar or academic to write some long-form posts on this platform? 2. What is the significance of a short-form post, which is completely neglected on this platform? 3. What is the significance of an announced improvements, that were never realized on this platform? 4. What is the importance of an strictly professional groups, which does not exist on this platform? 5. What is the importance of a critical thinking, understanding of diversity, and tolerance? 6. What is the importance of users opinions and users satisfaction? 7. What is the importance, benefits and shortcomings of an adopted marketing concept (mostly affiliate marketing) and future professional decentralization concept - blockchain based protocol?

Cindy. I do apprecciate your comment. Actually plenty of those members that " trolled me out " deleted their messages And most of them are gone. Just look the amount of messages and the numbers. They are huge gaps. Anyway. I did survive. What is funny is most of those " Torquemadas" rarely wrote anything worth it here. Cheers

I read the post and comments section you linked here Pedro...and I'm not quite sure why you refer to it as a 'crucifixion.' If you've ever been humiliated by the internet 'trolls' I'm certain you would agree the exchanges on your post are nothing more than professional differences of opinion;-)

I did kind of predict some like this back in October 2016 and I got cruxified. https://www.bebee.com/producer/@innformate/showing-off After that I just read " producers " about marketing...so I got either bored or bored.

Truth be told, Gert, the problem is that one's intellectual palate is stimulated only by contrasting tastes. Which is why genuine -- and lasting -- engagement requires expression of differences of opinion. It was, or should have been predictable, that a constant diet of "honey sweet" comments, almost exclusively from the "usual suspects", would eventually dull the appetites of many. That, and the virtual abandonment of the platform's initial vision and credo. It seems the Big Bee has become a Big Yellow Taxi. https://youtu.be/94bdMSCdw20?t=7 Cheers!

Two further reasons to post, linked to change. First the need to bring about change. If l ruled the World from Pickwick Secondly not wanting to continue with the change Stop the World I want to get off Oh yes and the reason for change Turn Turn Turn All of which embraces my favourite reason to post going off at tangents.
Ahhhhh--Gert Scholtz--a name I know and am fond of... I am nesting in my new digs and am adjusting to a new study. It's bigger, yet smaller overall. But that urge escapes me as yet. And at the tender age of 65, I am pursuing a new career. It's more than I wanted, but hey--you can't always get what you want. I'll just do my best. Wish me luck.

You've summed it up brilliantly in your last line CityVP 🐝 Manjit;-) " I am a person who thinks out aloud because I cannot do what the silent majority do - but I also respect the power of their silence - kudos to the Quiet Bees - they are true to themselves, and that is worth recognizing." Sometimes the 'quiet ones' choose their moments of reflection as a private journey inward...and speaking only for myself, that is a sacred space meant only to be shared with one's self....Eventually we emerge with a renewed sense of self...a heightened awareness that perhaps will move us in a new direction;-) Many of us have already reunited in an 'alternate' space...But it is posts like these that inspire me to pop in for a visit with old friends;-) Thank you Gert Scholtz!

Gert, my experience is that average engagement rates on beBee are higher than on LinkedIn or Twitter. Every social platform has the silent majority CityVP 🐝 Manjit has mentioned. Reaching these quiet users and getting them to interact is challenging, not only on beBee. I noticed that many new Bees don't interact even with their own posts. On the other hand, many others tell their stories, but unfortunately, people aren't listening. Maybe post like this can motivate us all (even "old" users) to be more engaged with each other.

I love the existence of the silent majority - people who have the choice to be listeners or observers. For them to do nothing and owe me nothing is what makes our society work - these are the people who do not make a fuss, they don't need to walk into a shop and tell that shop that it was a relevant experience, their feet and them not returning is their answer to that. Yet the online space is not or at least is more than a virtual shopping center. It is a space where information seeks to be free (but is generally attached with a cost called loss of privacy) . So to all LURKERS - I say Lurkers Unite and lurk to your heart's content. If we are writing or using the online space to think out aloud we should recognize the privilege of doing so but also recognize the silent majority is more than just a lurker label, this is the backbone of our economy and way of life - the silent majority do not even need to vote - but the day we truly overlook them, is the day a revolution is at hand - and so the singular glue of democracy are those who go on with their daily business, without feeling obligated or even socially engineered to obey what is our need to be liked or noticed . We need to develop a new kind of social confidence, one that is private and not a LIKE button command. I am not a marketer, I am a person who thinks out aloud because I cannot do what the silent majority do - but I also respect the power of their silence - kudos to the Quiet Bees - they are true to themselves, and that is worth recognizing.

Great idea, Gert, and so ..... Here’s to all you Quiet Bees, Whether home or overseas, Let’s ‘carp diem’, moment sieze, We’re here asking, pretty please. If you like our presentations, Or our bloggs and publications, Why not join us on the stage, Step right up now, let’s engage. Test the water with your foot, Now click ‘relevant’ to boot, Try some more, come let’s begin, Water’s warm, so jump right in. It’s your comments that we need, That we’d really love to read, Just a “hi there, loved your post”, “You’re the greatest, coast to coast”. But if you should think we suck, And our post’s a heap of muck, If you’ve not a devotee, Tell us why you disagree. But please keep your words polite, We don’t want to start a fight, So refrain from being rude, Disrespectful, blunt or crude. Now we’re chatting, hey that’s cool, Just one more unwritten rule, If you want to show you care, Spread the word and please hit ‘share’. 🤗🤗🤗

Here is an idea for increasing engagement, something that perhaps the beBee people can have as a feature of the platform one day. The bees with the highest engagement increase, as a percentage, receive some special prize for a few days. This can be some free promo of their posts (for those days) or something else they may prefer. Also, engagement can be a combination of things, such as new posts, comments, new connections, etc. Note that the increase is rewarded, so newcomers have the most to benefit from this feature. Thoughts?

Happy Passover Gert Scholtz and Wishing you and your family Happy Easter in advance :) We are cooking duck roast for lunch! I think it's a good time for this callout to our bees. I, myself have been very quiet lately due to the obstacles of using the app on my phone. Need to get to a laptop to comment or write a post but I am going to commit that I get to the laptop and engage more often because I don't want to miss all this sweet honey. Wishing a fabulous Easter Weekend!
