Has Christmas lost its Joy here is one reason

Has Christmas lost its Joy here is one reason

Well Christmas is almost here, the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Now before you get your knickers in a twist I did not say the time Jesus was born, I said the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus. This is also the time of year for stress and anxiety. To be honest this is quite the hypocrisy of the season.

I love the Christmas season. I enjoy the food and getting together with family but I find the anxiety people get when debating the gifts and the excess money issues that usually attend those decisions to be quite contrary to the point of the season. Jesus came to bring Peace and hope, not stress and debt. Maxing out your credit card to buy gifts was not His agenda.

Christmas is about relationships not gifts. Christmas is about fellowship not how much you spent. The reality is that many people buy gifts to hide the truth. What truth you might ask, the truth that they do not want to spend time with family. It is easier to sacrifice money than emotion. A true gift comes from the emotion not the pocketbook.

Is it okay to spend money of gifts, sure it is, but not to the point that you put yourself into debt. Is it okay to want to make everything perfect and special, again yes, but also not to the point of driving you and those around you nuts. If you find great enjoyment in putting up decorations go for it and have a blast just don’t get upset when others fail to have the same enjoyment.

This season is about celebrating the birth of a Savior. Yes I know too many He is but a blip in history and that is fine, enjoy the season as best you can. As it says in Ecclesiastes eat, drink and enjoy your work.

So have a great Christmas and don’t stress, Christmas is not about money it’s about relating.
