Homeless and hurting
Having talked to people about this issue I wanted to bring it up in written form. We all know that we have homeless in America and many other nations. But as America is not considered a developing nation which implies that we have a well established infrastructure and system of support the question of why do we have thousands upon thousands of homeless comes to mind.
We have a functioning welfare system, which appears to be all but overwhelmed in many states. Yet we still have homeless. We have veterans who have served their country honorably yet still find themselves homeless. It also appears that we have working families that are unable to keep a home and find themselves on the street.
Yes in my conversations I have listened too many of the issues that have contributed to this reality of homelessness and many are valid but none have provided a possible solution. Talking to individuals who want to help and have chosen to sacrifice in order to give often find that this drop in the bucket does little but give them a moment of increased awareness of the desperate needs.
As a result we often turn to organizations who are working with these groups only to find that many of them have such high overhead that our gifts do little to nothing to help. Yes many like the Salvation Army do quite well regarding overhead with the Red Cross being all but a curse word among many to whom I have spoken, and while this view of the Red Cross may not be accurate we still have the result we have. The homeless exist.
And while we must address the question of why do we have homeless in order to adequately solve it. Is why the most accurate question we need to ask? I only ask because it doesn’t seem to be working.
So as the many who are much smarter than I address the question and search for an answer I only ask that you not stop adding your drop to the bucket. A hot cup of coffee on a cold day might mean more than we know.
Blessings

Pascal you are very accurate in that follow through is lacking. It is also the hardest aspect of helping. In many situations it appears all but impossible and as you said takes intent very carefully planed execution to even start. Which is why I expect it is often missed.
