Is the truth simply my perspective?

Is the truth simply my perspective?

How often are we asked to believe that an individual’s perspective is truth and their opinion is fact? One of the evidences of this trend is in the trend we see as #not my president, if this were indeed true the person speaking would not be a citizen which would then imply they have no vote. These facts would then lead us to believe that president Trump is the most popular president in US history. But if we actually listen to the speeches given by these individuals we know that this is not the truth they desire to communicate.

This hash tag trend is far from an isolated incident but is instead one aspect of a much greater trend in our society. It is becoming more and more common for opinion to be presented as fact and opinion as truth. Even this statement itself can be considered as simple opinion as it is unsupported by declared research. So I will present faults media as my supporting evidence. Further support can be found in most talk shows, both on the radio and television broadcasts (very general, but I believe it makes my point.)

Now please do not take this as bashing radio and talk shows but instead as an attempt to reveal our gullibility. As a leader if I accepted reports which were simply based on opinion and perspective I might be popular but certainly not diligent.

The last time you came to a conclusion regarding an important purchase or decision how did you go about obtaining your information? Did you gather data or opinions? If you gathered opinions, what were the qualifications of the persons you accepted? If instead you looked for data where did you look? Are we as careful in our daily lives to only accept as true that which is truth and not simply opinion masquerading as truth? Are we alert to perspective pretending to be fact or do we search for the facts?

What we believe and upon that which we draw our own conclusions guide our daily lives, if we base our conclusions on potential nonsense, what are we basing our lives on? What you believe matters more than just for the present (opinion but supported by reality). What you hold onto as your reality, opens or closes your eyes to that which surrounds you.

If we are to learn to require the truth and facts once again, we will need to remember the basic question; who, what, where, when and how. Take the time to ensure you are accurately informed.

Blessings

I agree Vivian, we have removed truth and facts from the importance they once held and have replaced them with our opinion. While this is not a universal truth it appears to be very common. And as you mentioned has become an issue in many denominations. When scripture becomes an opinion where do we find truth. As I have been told by a lawyer "what is truth?" Yes they were being honest.#1
