Living life before you die
There are a vast array of writings and movies expressing the idea that we should live life before we die. Quotes like “Carpe diem” and “smell the roses” are continually used to remind us that life is not all about work and earning a living. Why? Simple, because it is so easy to get so focused on a task that we forget what is truly important. You can have all the toys but if you have no time to play with them what is the point? You can have an amazing family but if you are not part of it, where is the benefit?
I am not saying don’t work hard, I am saying work hard but remember to live as well. There are times when we work more than 12 hours in a day but should that be a life style? I lived 12 years with an average of five and a half hours sleep a night, which is enough to keep you going, but not enough to keep your imagination alert.
I expect that many who read this sleep a bit less and still accomplish their goals. But my question is “do you enjoy your life?” Sure you can maintain it, but do you want to? Work hard but remember to live as well. Take time to enjoy a sunset or a good book. Not all lunches need to be work lunches. Yes I know that there are times in life where staying on top of things takes all your time. I understand that working very hard is the way to establish yourself, but that is a time in life not a life style.
A life spent simply for gain or climbing the ladder might look good but I expect you will find that it was not worth the fight. Enjoy the moments in your day that bring a smile to your lips. Enjoy the times you have that just lift the weight off of your shoulders regardless of how brief. Have a cup of coffee simply to enjoy the flavor not just to keep you alert for the next task.
Live life before you die.
As a pastor let me simply say, yes, this applies to us as well.
Blessings!
