The truth is true, but are you sure?

The truth is true, but are you sure?

133462a7.jpgDoes the truth matter? I mean let’s be honest, we all have our opinion of what should be or not be, so does the truth matter? I expect by now some of you are asking are we talking about the truth or facts. Truth is defined as 1) The body of real things, events, and facts 2) the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality. So yes when we are talking about truth we are dealing with facts and reality. Hence the rub when discussing the truth.

We each in our own way see the things around us and ourselves interpret the events we see and hear then we each define the truth from our understanding of what we believe happened. So when people honestly ask “what is truth” they are not always being cynical. Truth is part of perception and interpretation, so back to the question, does the truth matter?

The answer is yes, but why? The truth matters to each of us and it affects how we act and even how we react to the events around us. We would like to know if there is poison in the cup. We would like to know how much of what we have been told is based on facts and how much is based on interpretation of those facts. We want to know the truth.

I have had many people get frustrated with me when I tell them a fact that does not line up with their desires or understanding of how things should be. So in their eyes I am not telling the truth. Was I presenting them faults facts? No, just facts that were not in line with their beliefs. So to them it was not true.

Is there a truth? Are there actual facts? Is there a proper or actual reality? If so that is where we should start when we desire to gain understanding of a situation. But the truth is those facts and that reality can be hard to get your hands on. Unless someone is intentionally twisting the information give them a little grace until you have a few more facts to guide your own opinion of the truth.

I believe there is a truth and a faults and I search for the truth, but I have come to the realization that I do not always have all the facts. Find something you believe in, something that does not change. Set your feet on that rock or you will be cast by every wind and moved by every wave. The truth matters but it can be very hard to find.

Blessings.
