To what standard do you hold yourself?

To what standard do you hold yourself?

This seems like a throw away question an ice breaker, but it is in fact a question that can change the way you look at life. Your life. What is your standard?

Now I am not talking about your standard of living I am asking about how you handle yourself in every and all situations. How do you treat people and yourself. What is your standard? Do you expect yourself to be just a little bit better than the next guy or have you picked out someone to emulate?

The idea being that as long as you are in that box or level of displayed character your okay. To be honest I don't believe we often even ponder this question. True we adjust our position based on responses or direction we might receive but how often do we stop and ask ourselves the question, “ to what level of character do I hold myself?” What is my standard?

As long as I am not getting into trouble what does it matter? More that we might think. We all judge others by what we see and yes even come to the point of condemning when we feel that their character is not up to what we deem a reasonable level for the situation in which we encounter them. But each day people look at us and wonder based on our actions and reactions who we are and what we stand for. The way they act around us or to what level they trust us or even work with us is based on those observations. So what are we saying?

Nest time you walk down the hall or go out to among people ask yourself how am I coming across, what level of character am I displaying. What standard are they seeing and am I good with it? You might be surprised with the answer.

Blessings

You are very accurate Harvey telling ourselves we are okay is very easy. Fellowship often reveals hints and sometimes down right blatant statements that my character is not up to standard. Thank you for your excellent observation!

Character has always meant for me what others see in my belief system. I look in the mirror each morning and come away that my character is ok. But the mirror is a dumb instrument, it merely reflects what you put in front of it. It is only through fellowship where my blind spots get revealed. Unfortunately this usually is not a pleasant prospect. Remember the mirror said i was ok, now i am faced with someone letting me know my mirror is that dumb instrument. The removal of blind spots in our character is a tedious process but very revealing in our belief systems. Good thoughts and post. We need real reflection.
