You don't
“waste good.

If you watch NCIS you know that Gibbs has a rule (#5), “you don't waste good”. This is a profound rule. The more I look at it the more I find that it is a very good rule. There is another common saying about babies and bathwater. Which I expect has the same point.

I, just like you have heard vast amounts of comments on just about everything these days. When we have a dearth of facts opinions rule and often are spread as fact. So we have the spread of opinion like never before. So how does don't waste good fit in to this situation? I could say find the good and focus on it. I could say stop promoting error and adjust your thoughts to match. I could even say look at what you know and verses what you think and recognize you have been told nothing of substance so why fear? But where is the good?

Good in this context is that which holds potential, something that holds within itself value or the opportunity to have value. Something that with a little effort will produce a substantial return. That something in most lives is relationship and ourselves. You currently have more time than you are generally accustomed to. Don't waste it. Use your time well. Spent this currency on your relationships and on yourself. True it might be more difficult to build your relationships but why let that stop you. Use your imagination and look for unique ways to build up the good. Take time to learn something new or continue developing a hobby or skill you have not used in a while.

Don't waste good, use your time don't just let it slip on by. Now I would love to say that I am a master of not wasting good. But to be honest I am not even close. But that doesn't mean I am unable to change my mind and begin using my time well. And I expect if you too have found that you are wasting good that you too can change your mind.

These days could be looked back on and seen to be excellent days if we choose to not wast good. How will you remember these days in the years to come? That memory is up to you.

Have a great day and take a moment to make it valuable!

Blessings

John Rylance I expect that is the idea. Using the current situation instead of just riding the waves being proactive. Though I anticipate both Churchill and Obama meant manipulating the situation to achieve a goal they otherwise would not have been able to accomplish. Seem to fit well! Thank you John!

Or as Churchill and others have said Don't waste a good crisis. A phrase also used by Rahm Emanuel during Obama's Presidency, which he clarified saying You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you could not do before. Mads Davidsen (NFL Football Coach) summed the not wasting a crisis as So even in difficult times we need to plan ahead, evaluate and execute proactively. The emphasis I feel is on us being proactive in not wasting good.

I must admit, Greg, that as an occasional NCIS frequenter I didn’t realise that Gibbs reportedly has 69 rules, with two No 1 rules, resulting in an actual total of 70. It all goes to show that perhaps I haven’t really been paying attention while watching, and hence “wasting good”. 🤗
