Our Slice

Our Slice

513238e1.jpg

In honor of @Randall Burns an ode to our slice of paradise.  The homestead showed up on our radar back in ‘98 with a phone call as i was traveling between projects.

The spousal unit had been looking off and on for a few months for a riverplace we could enjoy family.  She called and said i found it, they are nailing the sign in the ground now.  A few details later we were sitting in front of the view in the picture.

The three acres are just gorgeous but the house is a dated old railroad style home that one hallway serves every room in the house.  We found the foundation to the detached kitchen and the pipe that water was draw from the adjacent creek.  We are building a new house right behind the old one that is nearing completion.

We started talking about giving up the city life for a more rural atmosphere a few years ago and last year made the idea reality.

Our fear was we would get adjusted to the view and life where it would become just another house.  So far it has been anything but routine.  Starting off each day with that view seems to set a paradise mindset that carries over into the work day.

Our bug battles don't include the jurassic period holdovers described by Randall but ants are the enemy of our woes.  We went natural at first in a our battle trying all of the environmentally friendly versions ant deterrents.  That didn't work.  So it fell into all out chemical warfare.  Then we finally succumbed to hiring a pest control service.

Well they are not faring much better than our nuclear options either.  The house is past it prime and has more holes than a tennis racket per square inch.

We love our little slice of paradise.  The ants remind us we are not in Kansas anymore, but the view is worth the battle.

Harvey Lloyd Truly beautiful lakefront view ... a place to greet the morning and say "good-night" to the sun ;~) Blessed are you and your "spousal unit" ;~) If you don't mind me asking where is your "slice" of paradise? I hope those ants are behaving ;~)

The view is a die for to me. They say we don't get everything in a bundle. The ants were already there we have just moved into their space. Enjoy your paradise Harvey Lloyd 🤗

It is a paradise and we enjoy the days we can be on vacation at home. It's the Rappahannock River in Virginia located east of Tappahannock. Blue Crabs, Rockfish and flounder are the staples of the caught diet. My wife and son in law have created a crab cake to die for. They have ruined me, i can't buy one out anymore. We are thinking about creating the crab diet. A bushel of crabs for your meal and you have pick your own. You never over eat because you get tired. We haven't found a suitable replacement for the beer that doesn't blow the diet plan out the water. We will keep looking and testing though.

Thanks for dropping a comment in the box Ali \ud83d\udc1d Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee. Yea i am sure that a humble review of the ants ability to teach is in there somewhere, i just wish they had their own building and i don't have to share. It is amazing that we share a taste for the same cuisine though. The cronic question the spousal unit and i asked each other is where do you want wake up and drink your coffee? Given suburbias view and the picture above it was a no brainer.

Thanks for the tip Paul \ and stopping by. Its a great place to unwind and flush the day. I am afraid BeBee is it for me. I am the social media neanderthal. Twitter is the super highway that my club and knuckle dragging can't handle. BeBee has become a world for me to explore and i am quite satisfied with my experience and the great folks who post here. I enjoy your posts but they are so far over my head that i read with little understanding but enjoy your excitement and passion.

Thanks for the comment and yes i grew up in the country where life was simple and not so fast paced. I had forgotten the beauty of no noise, nature and seeing animals in their natural habitat. Most importantly the fun that can be had with a few beers, bushel of Chesapeake bay Blue Crabs and a few friends. Some fine BS comes from that picnic table.

Thanks for the view and yes we enjoy our little slice. Three acres gets small when all six grandkids get there, but it's like a disneyland for them. Fun to watch.

We use cinnamon around the kitchen and foodstuffs. But the entry point, well their are a few 1000 of those. Hence the design build of the new place. It was way cheaper than plugging the holes. On my way to the view i cross a million ant hills so i know i fight in vain, besides they are on anthillmedia.com sharing the pictures of the view. It has been recommended that we get an anteater for a pet. My favorite view quote, "If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes" Thanks for stopping buy.
