The End of the World as I knew it

Looking back into my High School days when  I wanted to do was NOT  go to class and stay outside playing Soccer instead, I can see that much have changed. Not only myself but also the environment where I have spent most of my life also shifted. When you are "young and stupid" like my dad usually says, you do not realize that everything that you see in the books was lived by people,  people just like you.

I have experienced horrible events such as the 9/11, the shooting in Orlando's nightclub Pulse, the fire on Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria and the Boston Marathon bombing and many other catastrophic events including the 2009 Global Financial Crisis. While I may have not been present in those, they have shaped my way of looking into things and way of thinking. Institutions that I held as a beacon and  believed would last for a long time, are not as solid as I thought they were. 

I have also seen a Space Ship deploy and successfully land, new subatomic particles being discovered, the demotion of Pluto as a planet and then the evidence of discovery of a 9th planet in our system; super materials, advanced AI and the first attempts on quantum computers. Ascension of new viruses,creations of human tissues in laboratories and self-driving cars. Disruptive tech, scientific innovations and new schools of thought.

I remember what my Finance Professor used to say "past data are not enough to forecast future return" while that is true (and many mutual funds have that in their prospectuses) it is also important to consider those events into your models and your plans for the future.Taken all this volatility, violence and terror into consideration,  many people have changed their behaviors, whether it be travel plans, business expansion plans, saving plans, investing plans... all based on these various incidents and their effects on people's future.

It is important to know about the past and how that shaped people's behavior in the past. Get to know global history and how events shaped cultures over time. It is important to know who key people are, what they argued and taught, and how that shaped modern thought. "And yes 15 year old Henrique, this is all important and will be important to your future!".

I was saving this "epiphany post" to congratulate  teachers in October 11th (Brazilian teacher's day), then I realized that every day should be teacher's day.
