The Bayberry Fever in Vancouver
Bayberry, a very seasonal fruit grows in the southern provinces of China, was imported in Vancouver Canada for the first time this summer. The nostalgic feeling and its effect on Chinese immigrants, especially the new comers, was astonishing. One shipment with hundreds of boxes was sold in minutes on one of the e-commerce platforms. It also started a social media war between several e-commerce platforms and lifestyle bloggers. Some locals were worried about the food safety issue associated with this foreign, exotic fruit. I conducted a mini-tasting party with a group of friends. This is my report.
