Ode to a sleepless night

I wrote this poem a few years ago, while i was still working late nights, after not managing to sleep. I think it was about 9 o´clock in the morning when this was written but I´ve decided to post as written on the day, so forgive me of any mistakes.

I hope you enjoy

Awake I lie,
As the dark rolls by,
And the dawn creeps ever closer,...
Tossing and turning,
The duvet churning,
The birds ring out their cry.

The hussle and bussle ,
of the morning shuffle,
The milkman whistling by,
The local street sweeper,
The corner shop keeper,
The school kids on their bikes.

The traffic is rolling,
The mums are out strolling, the kids hang by their sides
The shops are all open
Which means now I'm not coping,
To get any sleep tonight

Now to bring this to conclusion,
I must end my illusion
Of resting my weirey eyes,
I've tried it for hours,
Even tried having showers, and still my body is stirring

So out to the world my tired mind must go,
but for what type of journey I do not yet know!
But if on my travels,
Our paths should enravel,
Then watchout coz I'm likely to snap
