The Importance Of Trust In Leadership

The Importance Of Trust In Leadership

Trust is earned, respect is given, and
loyalty is demonstrated. Betrayal of
any one of those is to lose all three.

How important is Trust in Leadership? Very! One of the biggest mistakes a Leader can make is to assume that others trust him/her simply by virtue of his/her title/status/rank in the organizational structure. A Leader must also learn to trust himself/herself before trusting others. The reality is that Trust must be earned and that it actually takes time to build it. Trust is primarily accomplished by your ability, transparency, consistency, integrity and commitment to deliver as a Leader. Trust cannot be built and earned overnight as it requires time, effort, diligence and character. But it leads to better performances, morale, commitment, communication and satisfaction. Thoughts?

Well said Michael. Thanks for your feedback. Agreed. Commitment is huge. Never make commitments you will break as it will negatively impact, if not destroy, trust.

Thank you Javier. Much appreciated. Exactly. It boils down to transparency, sincerity and consistency.
Communications is fundamental to building trust. How to communicate sincerely, honestly and regularly is a challenge for business leaders and managers alike. After all, there still are companies, divisions and departments to run. But the return on communications is high. Trust can’t be built overnight. It requires time, effort, diligence, and character. Inspiring trust is not slick or easy to fake. Trust is like a forest. It takes a long time to grow and can burn down with a just touch of carelessness. Thanks Jean-Yves for bringing it to us. CC thanks Daniel Paz ;-)

Thanks Ivette. Much appreciated. Exactly. You give respect to earn trust. Even to your opponent that is. Actions speak louder than words. Show it.
