25 Things That Could Have Happened To America If The Democrats Won Control In 2016

25 Things That Could Have Happened To America If The Democrats Won Control In 2016

For the past few months, I have been on a kind of 12 step program to wean myself off of writing about the American tragedy that has been the Trump presidency. I knew this would take a nit of time because it was a long time coming. But the good news is that I can see the end. Thanks for your indulgence.

The good news is that there with the flipping of the US Congress, several of the things on this list could quite possibly happen.

1. America would have most likely had either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders as President.

2. The toxic racism that has been condoned would have been contained.

3. There would never have been a question of a border wall because immigration laws would have been strengthened.

4. The US would be instituting climate control measures, sharing and capitalizing on ideas from all over the world.

5. Illegal immigration would be dealt with in a civilized way that did not rip families apart. (same as it ever was)

6. Fair taxation of the rich and corporations would fund a great many social safety net programs.

7. College and post secondary educational institutions would have been made more affordable, allowing young people to train for jobs with a real future.

8. Disaster relief for places link Houston, Puerto Rico and now California would be quickly given, including military personnel to assist with cleanup efforts.

9. The relative ability of alt-right hate and neo-nazi groups to grow stronger would have been checked, because they would have been condemned by the administration not praised.

10. 4500 (and counting) fewer lies would be told to the America people by their commander in chief.

11. The media would not be vilified and attacked, but instead, respected for their ability to keep the public informed.

12. Gun control laws that respected the rights of responsible gun owners would have been enacted and the number of gun related deaths would had dropped significantly.

13. America’s relationships with allies and trading partners around the world would have grown deeper and led the way to mutually profitable relationships with them.

14. Improved immigration policies and procedures would assure that America could still attract the best and brightest people from around the world to establish and grow new businesses and improve the economy.

15. America’s costly isolationist policies would never have been enacted and the the country’s ability to export their technologies and products would have been improved.

16. Improvements would have been made to the Affordable Care Act making good health insurance available to even more Americans.

17. Iran would still be abiding by the terms of the Nuclear Deal established by the Obama administration. And the US would still be a leading voice in the area of climate change.

18. Russian interference in elections and social media would have been curtailed or obliterated, because America’s anti-hacking technology would have been put into effect.

19. The climate of hate and division that currently divides the country would never have been allowed to grow as large and deep as it has.

20. Restrictions on industrial pollution would have reduced the effects of climate change, improved the quality of water in the country and eliminated the hyper destructive environmental effects of fraking and strip mining and the easing of other same regulations.

21. Job losses from the institution of tariffs and lack of confidence in the presidency would never have become a day-to-day reality.

22. Relationships with other superpowers in the world would have been stabilized and eventually strengthened through positively focused diplomacy and not threats.

23. The positive steps taken by the Obama administration to improve the quality of life for all Americans would have been improved upon and not systematically diminished by a spiteful racist hater.

24.The United States would still be seen as the greatest economy in the world, but the greatest democratic country in the world and not the current perception.

25. The word 'shitshow' would not be used to describe the administration of the United States.

Jim, Agree except for item 25. the reality is worse and I can guarantee the only possible pony in there is greater visibility of racists and xenophobes. In my humble opinion the damage done to the regulatory bodies of the US Government may take a decade to repair.
