5 3 - : iWe live in a political world
Love don't have any place
We're living in times
Where men commit crimes
And crime don't have any face

We live in a political world
Where peace is not welcome at all
It's turned away from the door
To wonder some more
Or put up against the wall

Bob Dylan

Anybody who hasn’t been spelunking in a cave in a remote part of Borneo for the past two years has probably noticed how fucked up things have gotten in the United States of America.
Their once vaunted democratic political system is in the process of imploding on them big time.

And you know, it would be really easy to point that the Chief Executive Psychopath, with his terminal narcissistic disorder, his fanatical devotion to revenge being slighted by the former president, his Islamophobia, his racism, his misogyny, and his chronic lying and self delusion and see that as the real cause of the the sea change that country is going through.
But shrewd and dedicated observers of America will tell you that the President is there for a very strategic tactical reason.
He sucks up all the air around him.
His ineptitude and complete unpredictability make him the perfect carnival barker, keeping all the ‘rubes’ hypnotized, while inside the tent the real evil people are working day and night to dismantle the system.
They are essentially stealing from the poor and giving to the rich in terms of tax cuts, and
de-regulation that will allow industry to dump their shit where every they want, and big pharma, big medicine and big insurance to jack private health care rates through the roof and basically bankrupt and or murder anyone who can’t afford to pay the price.
This is one of the key steps that these anarchists, and by anarchists I mean high ranking Republicans in the congress and the senate, have taken in a very draconian plan to basically turn America into a nation of haves and have nots.
They are, and I know this sounds inhuman, culling the herd. Because with unaffordable health care, people who get sick will simply die. The alternative is going into debt for millions that you would have to spend your lifetime paying back, and that’s if you’re lucky and can get anybody to actually extend you the credit.
It’s Fright Night Every Day

57bffe37.jpgThis is about the scariest shit that I have seen happen in the US in my lifetime. And yet if you turn on the news, what do you see. Trump said this. Trump tweeted that. Trump played some more golf. Trump ate fucking chocolate cake.
There was a time when people counted on the news to give them some perspective, but because the Republicans have pretty much perfected the art of fake news, and because they got their shill president to get out there and accuse the media of running fake news stories, an environment of complete skepticism has been created in that society.
Nobody knows their ass from their elbow anymore. Media people, over the last decade, have become as dumbed down as the rest of dumb America, and to them Trump is the bright, shiny thing that they can talk about endlessly.
I know all Americans are not dumb. But even the smart ones and frightened and confused. Because nobody, except for a handful of domestic terrorists with names like Ryan and McConnell and Bannon etc, really know what the end game is. Or maybe they’re just making this shit up as they go along. It's hard to know for sure.
I have a lot of trouble believing that what is going on in the US is any sort of intentional genocide. So the only other thing that is logical to assume is that these politicians are all being paid huge sums of lobby bucks under the table, to wield their influence to the advantage of the super rich and the big industries like pharma, oil, coal, guns, and the military industrial complex suppliers.
But Here’s The Rub

Economics 101 states that in order to create wealth through the selling of products or services, you need to actually have a market.
If the intention is to kill off the poor and the aged and to drive the middle class into bankruptcy, where the fuck is your domestic market which, historically in the US, has been one with the highest per capita consumption in the world?
This greed and elitism is being fed at the expense of the key consumers.
Call me silly, but I can’t help but think that this is all amazingly short-sighted, if indeed there is any vision at work here at all. But then again, greed can cause all kinds of strange afflictions among the greedy.
The insanity being exhibited by the Republican party has pretty much infected the Democratic party as well. I fancy myself a conservative Democrat or Liberal, as we are called here in The Great White North, and subscribe to a lot of the Democratic social media propaganda sites.
And they are up to their eyeballs in fake news themselves. But there’s a kind of desperation here, simply because they don’t have a Trump for people to unload on. They could probably use a good whipping boy right about now. Any Kennedys available?

What Now?

f804f38a.jpgI’m not sure where this road leads the United States. Short of blowing it all up and starting over again, which is probably the least likely scenario, I believe that the US, and to a significant extent, its trading partners, are in for a long period of chaos.
My advice to my American friends is simple. If you don’t want to end up getting completely fucked over by the government you elected to look out for you, then use your vote next year to put the shoe on the other foot and give the power back to the small ‘c’ crazies instead of the huge ‘C’ crazies you have in power now.
And if you are thinking about relocating your business to Canada, I know a few people who can help you do that. St Catharines is a pretty well situated city & always open for business. :)

Many of us have talked about the idea that the Constitution should be amended in case IE: The Russia investigation against the Trump camp which was on-going prior to him taking office. I think in a case like that, the current President should stay in Office until the investigation is over. This has been so unfair to the American's and the world IMO. I don't understand why an elected official, especially the President has SO much power and is ultra protected vs. a private citizen. If the Trump Admin continues to ignore Russia's involvement in our elections and heaven knows what else they've done... well I find that to be collusion because they are not placing the USA as a priority over Russia. NYT just put out a list of Trumps lies over the past few years. Wow- they are so transparent, the lies, that is.

Chas \u270c\ufe0f Wyatt And you are doing the right thing, But at the end of the day you have to question the motives of those in power who are doing all this. And that all comes down to greed. It's one thing to have a leader who galvanizes the country but it's quite another when it's the poor example he sets that does it. I agree with you though, I think many states are stepping up their game and taking more responsibility for the well being of their people. But the reason for that is the administration's apathy and greed. They are being forced to help because the federal government won't. This is just beginning Chas. The real test is how long people will put up with unaffordable health care so the rich can get a tax break.

Jim Murray Welcome to the Republic of Gilead. Christ, even fiction can't out perform the fantasies being offered by the Republican administration. In Gilead the government appears to be strong yet when pressed no one really appears to be a strong believer. There are so many people in America who are exceptional. Where are their voices? The greatest threat is that Trump is accepted as a complete buffoon and causes those who can make genuine change to take their eyes off the ball. It's quite an effective strategy and the Republicans and their pally Putin are highly skilled practitioners. We can only hope that within society there are pockets of influencers (sorry to use that term!) who can find a way to climb out of the primordial ooze. "Our problem right now is that we're so specialized that if the lights go out, there are a huge number of people who are not going to know what to do. But within every dystopia there's a little utopia." - Margaret Atwood

Got a great comment over in the Lumpy Kingdom. Some lawyer who basically was pissed that somebody who was not an American would have the temerity to write an article critical of the current collection of assholes in charge of the US. My reply, as always, is that you don't have to actually be in a train wreck to understand the damage it can do. Americans really have to, in large part, get over themselves. He also asked whether I would think it was fair if he and an outsider, critiicized Toronto Mayor Rob Ford for being an embarrassment to Canada. My response is "Ask Jimmy Kimmel".

You can rail on all you want from over in the slavic world. But that will not change the fact the fact that the Republicans aren't any better at governing America than the Dems. It's all a bag of shit Brian, and you are wise to have positioned yourself next door to Gingus Putin.

Pamela & Jim. The dumbing down of America has been going on for years as has the Republican plan launched when Newt was yet to become a part of the "shadow government." This is what we get when no one stands up and runs for all the "lesser offices". Last Saturday I met a woman who has held state and local offices and I think her solution may be one that can be employed. She is on a crusade to get more women to run for office. She told me that when women run they succeed a little over 50% of the time. The difficulty is that more men run (5 to 1) and so we wind up with a patriarchal society from the school board to the Senate. She is registered as a Republican but is fiscally conservative while socially liberal and in her words "I don't give damn what party a woman is in just getting her involved will make a difference." Let's find every way we can to make a difference.
