Some Simple Things You Can Do To Help Move People From LinkedIn To BeBee
I have now officially been on beBee so long I can’t actually remember when I moved over here from LinkedIn.This experience has been kind of a revelation to me, mainly because at the time I started here, I was in a very disheartened state of mind.
This is the kind of thing that happens who you spend several months banging your head against the wall, and ending up with progressively less and less of what you went there for in the first place.
However, that was then, and this is now and all I really have to say about it is that I’m very happy I made the decision to come to beBee. (Thanks to John White)
beBee Passes My Smell Test With Flying Colours
I have followed things very closely around here, mainly because I was skeptical at the outset. But over the past several months, I have seen that J & J, (Javier & Juan) as I call them, are the real deal, and genuinely unlike anyone out there in the social media business.
beBee is as pure an organic entity as you are likely to find. And it’s growing.
It’s growing on the strength of its owners’ heart and soul and positive predisposition. It’s growing through the contagiousness of that positivity. And it’s growing because the people who are helping it grow, both staff and the users, are excited and energized and not wanting, for any reason, to let this opportunity go anywhere but up.
At LinkedIn, we pretty much see that the opposite is happening.
Many of the exalted Influencers are leaving or have left. Every day, a new independent writer or three show up here. The LI networkers, who used to be able to help the independent writers, have all had their networks capped at 30,000 and are totally pissed about it. Group managers are no longer incentivized to stay on top of things, because their memberships were capped months ago, and so the group experience is suffering as well.
Yesterday I went for a stroll down my LI home page. The sponsored links are creeping in, But there was pitifully little that I had not seen on the same stroll the week before. That really made me feel bad for many of the people who are still posting there regularly.
Last week Cory Galbraith, a good writer who has 12,000 LI followers, published a post on Pulse and ended up with zeros across the board, after something like three days.
With a site that large there are still a great many people over on Linkedin who are simply hanging on waiting for things to get better as a result of the acquisition by Microsoft.
But there’s no guarantee of that. None. And there’s certainly no indication of it so far. It’s my belief that these people are Waiting for Godot. Or as we say in Toronto, waiting for the Maple Leafs to win the cup.
The Blue Ocean of Bubbly GooI used to read Richard Scarry books to my kids when they were younger and the expression above in the subhead, sums up today’s LinkedIn pretty accurately.
There are many souls waiting to be saved on LinkedIn, floating aimlessly in the Blue Ocean of Bubbly Goo. So do them, yourself and beBee a favour and make it a point to throw them a life line.
Three Easy Ways To Do This
1. Download some of the memes I have designed and housed in special post and post them on your LinkedIn wall. Actually once you have downloaded them you can tweet them or post them anywhere else you like as well.

2. Simply write a short format post telling people in your LinkedIn network how much you are enjoying the experience here. And how you wish they would just come on over and give it a try.
Here’s a couple of samples that I have done recently:
“Three weeks ago my pal, PHIL FRIEDMAN, published this post on beBee… https://www.bebee.com/producer/@friedman-phil/affinity-networking-is-on-the-line.
He has, so far, garnered more than 13,000 views and close to 300 comments. Now just ask yourself one question. How does this compare to the stats on your last long format Pulse post? I thought so. If you want to grow your network, add beBee to your network choices.”
“beBee is a unique social media user experience. But don't take my word for it. Try it yourself. It's free and always will be. So add it your your social media list. You'll be surprised at how much honey gets made over there.”
3. Share this post with people in your beBee network and encourage them to do the same.
It’s Just A Matter of Time
The lost souls of LinkedIn are going to come sooner or later, because LinkedIn is really losing its appeal. Period
The only difference is that if you bring them over, you get to feel good about it too.
I’ve been doing this for several weeks now. And I do it for one simple reason. The more beBee grows, the more opportunity it will create for all of us to get what we came for. No matter what that is.
Now to be fair, while it’s true that LinkedIn is becoming a disappointment to a lot of people, there will always be a fairly large number, mainly on the corporate side, who will stick with LinkedIn, because they are already well established there and have figured out some way to game the crappy algorithm that runs the site.
But the rest can easily be described with adjectives like frustrated, flummoxed and disillusioned. And these are the people who may need nothing more than a friendly nudge.
So by all means, nudge away. The gratification factor is substantial to say the least. As are the long term benefits to helping beBee grow.

I was talking to somebody about this yesterday. I think the big problem with Facebook is that while they may be trying to turn it into an advertising medium, they are having a hell of a time getting people to actually care.
