Shadows in time. Fleeting but never forgotten.

Shadows in time. Fleeting but never forgotten.

e6dc1130.jpg

Dedicated to all the shadows in my life and those yet to come!

Once in time

A picture taken

A captured moment

A memory so sublime

This one simply captured four

Huddled close with love so strong

Throughout my life

There have been many more

Spontaneous as it may have been

Our shadows captured from the sun

Rays of cascading beams of light

It actually made us grin

One a father loved so much

His lifely shadow so bold and strong

No longer here has diminished none

Its essence lingers in my mind like a gentle crutch

I loved his shadow then

I love his shadow now

It tarries still within my heart

I talk to it often, again and again

It told me once to do my best

It watched me as I came and went

It followed me through the ups and downs

It championed me along my journeys quest

I find myself looking for it now and again

I can feel its touch like a gentle breeze

It sometimes manifests when the times get rough

And appears like magic through silhouettes of his grandchildren

There are other shadows I have seen

Along my journey here and there

An imprint left that never fades

Their influence upon me oh so keen

So when you see a shadow show

Revel in its beautiful light

And take it in--for in its time

It lasts much longer than you know

Joahn Denver- On the Wings of a Dream: https://youtu.be/xrovGPLw9SQ Yesterday I had a dream about dying About laying to rest and then flying How the moment at hand Is the only thing we really own And I lay in my bed and I wonder After all has been said and is done for Why is it thus we are here And so soon we are gone Is this life just a path To the place that we all have come from Does the heart know the way And if not can it ever be found In a smile or a tear Or a prayer or a sigh or a song And if so I sing for my father And in truth you must know I would rather He were here by my side We could fly on the wings of a dream To a place where the spirit could find us And joy and surrender would bind us We are one anyway Anyway we are more than we seem There are those who will lead us Protect us each step of the way From beginning to end For each moment forever each day Such a gift has been given It can never be taken away Though the body in passing must leave us There is one who remains to receive us There are those in this life Who are friends from our heavenly home So I listen to the voices inside me For I know they are there just to guide me And my faith will proclaim it is so We are never alone From the life to the light From the dark of the night to the dawn He is so in my heart He is here he could never be gone Though the singer is silent There still is the truth of the song Yesterday I had a dream about dying About laying to rest and then flying How the moment at hand Is the only thing we really own And I lay in my bed and I wonder After all has been said and is done for Why is it thus we are here And so soon we are gone Why is it thus we are here And so soon we are gone

Joel Anderson How beautiful ... I read it several times I love the "shadows" picture and how you connected it to your poem If this is your first poem then ... many are sure to follow ... the poet inside is now awake ;~) In honor of the "shadows" you honor with this poem ... and carry in your heart ... by ee cummings i carry your heart with me i carry it in my heart i am never without it anywhere i go you go, my dear; and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you here is the deepest secret nobody knows here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart i carry your heart i carry it in my heart

So few of us see shadows, Joel, fewer look at them and marvel, and fewer still remember what was often only present for what seemed like an instant. 🤔

Joel Anderson- if this is only a try then what a great one it is on writing poetry. You give musically a new meaning to shadows and their lasting effect. Couldn't hold myself not to share your poem
