My Words

My Words

-—
Best of ALL Lookout, Raitt National Park, SE Queensland

Tempted to submit a WORD for Sara Jacobovici's Wednesday Word(s) of the Week, I stumbled about in a web of terms and expressions, so many weird and wonderful words, whacky and woeful words, all wandering around in my head ..... and then it came to me:

------------------------------

I have no words that I call mine,

That lift my soul above Cloud 9,

That see me through my daily toil,

And sooth me like a charmer's oil.

-------------------------------

That celebrate what others see,

And help them stand up proud and free,

Or quell their tempers with a joke,

And make them laugh until they choke.

-------------------------------

Words can do so many things,

Give us wings or pull our strings.

When we carefully choose our words,

We can melt an army's swords.

---------------------------------

Words of wisdom, words of glory,

When combined they tell a story,

But when we can make them rhyme,

Words confirm it's party time.

-------------------------------

But please let us not forget,

Words can form a serious threat,

Rude words shouldn't be let loose,

Lest they formulate abuse.

--------------------------------

Once our words are good to go,

Check them twice before the show,

Once they're out there on display,

There's no recalls, there they'll stay.

---------------------------------

I have no words that I call mine,

They're yours, they're ours, these words sublime,

My words are borrowed, not possessed,

They're free to roam, 'till we request.

----------=----------=-----------=-----------

Let's choose the words we borrow carefully, then sow them in fertile imagery.

Only then can we cultivate a sentence and harvest a story.

I'm not familiar with this one about honeyed tongues. I need to learn more Croatian proverbs. :)

perhaps “Med ima u ustima, a čemer u srcu” fits mor aptly? This might be considered similar in its intent to “Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing?”

#70 The term ‘scentless accolades’ is entirely my own fabrication. The point I am attempting to make is the hollowness of the praise, like a proffered rose, irrespective of name, without perfume.

#69 I wonder if Ken it was a typo and it should have read senseless accolades. Either way l love Lada's Croatian phrase. It could become a buzz phrase in business meetings I can hear someone saying lets see if the idea stinks or smells good or does it just do nothing.

One more thing regarding words. You mentioned "scentless accolades." In Croatia we have a phrase "nit’ smrdi, nit’ miriše" (literal translation "neither stink nor smell good"), used when something or someone is plain, has no substance, is neither good nor bad. Is that the meaning of "scentless accolades?"

I'm not in the habit of repeating the words of other people's comments, but your two sentences beautifully described the core of this platform in its beginnings: "Back in the days when beBee was young and new, so many of us were so keenly engaged in each other’s posts, resulting in a fusion of stimuli. There were just not enough hours in the day to write the comments and posts that were buzzing around the brain." There were times when I would get out of bed in the middle of the night because I remembered something I could write as a comment on someone's post. 🛌💡 To me, you are much more than just entertainer. I fully agree on that with John.

Thanks, John Rylance. I’ll take a gamble and guess you’re an unharmed pundit. 😂

I agree. Behind each of your lighthearted puns as well as fun is a great deal of truth, wisdom, etc. There is more to your posts than "A talent to amuse", an epithet given to Noel Coward. The important thing is whether your comments put your message across and they do, both with and without puns. Keep pun-diting.

You may have a point, Lada. Some days I have to force myself to read and comment, since the previous great variety of capable, witty and interesting writers, who opened their soul and wrote from their own heart-felt experiences, is no longer there. Back in the days when beBee was young and new, so many of us were so keenly engaged in each other’s posts, resulting in a fusion of stimuli. There were just not enough hours in the day to write the comments and posts that were buzzing around the brain. It was a unique time, but times change and so do people, as they move on and find new challenges. Of course we all have a new common worldwide challenge, but I, for one, am damned if I’m going to join in the echoes of pessimism and criticism of governments, leaders and mankind, unless it’s to encourage us to laugh at our situation and relieve the tension. As you know, my favourite form of light relief is to inflict alliterating pun-ishment on the pun-dits with pun-ctilious pun-ctuation, often hackneyed rather than original and flat rather than funny, but, I trust, never dull. After all, if the beauty of the written word can’t catch the eye of the beholder, then let’s at least surreptitiously knock the chip off the shoulder. My challenge is not to engage in self inflating word brawls or empty and meaningless over-the-top scentless accolades, but, above all else, to entertain. The stage out there is limitless. The footlights await. Join me in the wings.

Me too, Ken. I think I was more eloquent and witty than now. Maybe because I commented more often and writing is a skill that requires constant practising. But also there were more posts to which I wanted to write a comment.

#61 At last, I've found an advantage to getting older (and bolder 😂), Lada \ud83c\udfe1 Prkic. As my memory fades (it was never really all that good, even in my younger days), I find that reading through the comments string of old posts (whether mine or others) is like opening a window on a lost world. I'm frequently surprised, astonished, or even genuinely delighted at old forgotten comments and have to restrain myself from reading out loud such things as, "Did he/she/I really say that?" "How witty!" "How true!" "How sad!" And then there's the inevitable, "Gosh, I forgot to reply to that one." There's often a pot of gold to be found at the end of the old post rainbow. All we need to do is find the time and dig a little.

Agreed, John. I am usually pleasantly surprised when I read my old comments as if it wasn't me who wrote those words. :-) In most times I agree with my self then.

I agree, with many of us in "lockdown" it's a chance for beBees to surf the annals for former gems. To search the attic that is our mind for classic posts in its dusty corners. Revisit our former thoughts. Often when I come across posts I have enjoyed I looked to see if I commented, what I said and whether I agree with my then self. We all I suspect enjoy what's euphemistically called a Golden Oldie. (A post not a person)

#59 It's good to see this post again. There are so many old posts which deserve to be read over and over again and commented as well. Maybe then some of those who left the platform might come back. I miss them too. Sara Jacobovici was one of my favourite bees. I am not one of those who think that everything was better before, but beBee is for sure one of those things. We cannot turn back time, but occasional look at the rearview mirror is always welcomed. :-)

Perhaps it’s time we took a look at the comments string of more of our old posts, Paul? As I said before, “Many of their words in print, Bring back memories worth a mint.”

Ken Boddie Not only do you have a delight-FULL sense of humor Ken ... You are a thought-FULL poet ... who possesses a "fertile imagination" Thank you for sharing your "Words" I'm going to share them ... hoping many come and enjoy them as much as I did ;~) My favorite lines: Words of wisdom, words of glory, When combined they tell a story These reminded me of the WORD ... who is WISDOM He filled the earth with "glory" And came to earth ... Ken Boddie

Sad to say, Lada, there are not many left from the old brigade. We still have the memories, however, woven in their comments on our buzzes. Many of their words in print, Bring back memories worth a mint.

Ken, I like to share good old posts such as this one. It's like walking down the memory lane seeing again all the familiar faces that vanished from this platform: Gert, Sara, Deb, Dean, Debesh, Lisa, ... the list is going on and on. It's a delightful read, indeed. You know how to treat your borrow words to have an abundant harvest. :)

No words were harmed in the fabrication of this poem, Praveen. No nails were used. All words were perfectly joined together by traditional grammatical construction. 😇

Lisa Gallagher

What a great poem and good timing with this! My favorite part (well I enjoyed the entire poem) "Words can do so many things, Give us wings or pull our strings. When we carefully choose our words, We can melt an army's swords. " We've all used words we do regret It's a learning curve at times, I bet. One can only hope through regret, we choose our words with thoughts of love and respect.
