What if Jesus was born in our Digital Age?

What if Jesus was born in our Digital Age?

What if Jesus was <
in our Digital Age?

would we find out?

S36

As a follower of Jesus and a Social Media practitioner since January 2009, I have often wondered, ‘what would have happened if Jesus Christ was born in these Digital times?’

Would Jesus have used Social Media platforms like I do today?

Platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube?

What about Foursquare, Google, Gmail and Amazon?

And more recent apps like Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat and beBee?

Well, if Jesus chose not to, I’m sure the Apostles would have. Perhaps the gospels would have been self published on Amazon by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Now, the Apostle Paul is perhaps the greatest networker ever. Certainly he was in the first century.

Paul of Tarsus the Great Connector

Albert-László, Barabási, author of Linked: How Everything Is Connected to Everything Else and What It Means for Business, Science, and Everyday Life, describes the activities Paul the evangelist, as a great net-worker.

Why?

Because he was “linked” all over Asia Minor.

Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, “describes three types of people involved in creating networks:

Connectors are the people who "link us up with the world ... people with a special gift for bringing the world together.”

Mavens are "information specialists", or people we rely upon to connect us with new information and trends.

Salesmen are "persuaders", charismatic people with powerful negotiation skills.

Paul, the apostle, I believe could well qualify for all three of the above types of networkers.

Paul, indeed was a great connector as well described by Iggy Pintado author of

Connection Generation: How connection determines our place in society and business.”

So, as Paul was such a great connector, I’m sure if he were living in current times, he would have been an early adopter of Social Media and used it to great advantage.

The Birth of Jesus...

Well getting back to Jesus...

... What if Jesus was born in our Digital Age?

Would it be announced on Twitter in 140 characters or less?

... well, a good friend and colleague of mine sent me the following message by email back in December 2010:

Hope you have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year.

This YouTube just cracked me up! Reminded me of you

Corinne”

Now the YouTube isn’t mine.

However I recon if Jesus was born today it might go something like this...

Now as indicated be the upload date below, the video is 6 years old, and social media has evolved and and new platforms have come on the scene since then. However the concept is still relevant and it is interesting to compare the social media platforms used to how they work today.

So...

... what if Jesus was born in Digital Age?

Times change, the feeling remains the same.

Jesus was born over 2000 years ago and not in our Digital and Mobile Age.

The big question is this for many people…

Is he alive today?

What do think?

What do you believe?

... my simple credo is ΙΧΘΥΣ, the ancient acrostic formed by the classical Greek word for "fish" and used by Early Christians as a secret symbol.

As “less is more” as the saying goes, the acrostic ΙΧΘΥΣ works well in Twitter and goes like this (in English)...

ΙΧΘΥΣ

Jesus Christ Son of God Saviour.

Have a Happy Christmas, wherever in the world you happen to be.

And I trust the New Year is everything you want it to be.

What a great buzz. The video was awesome. I do believe that if Jesus was here today the message would be the same, maybe delivered differently but still the same. The Bible is timeless in its hope for mankind. His metaphors would change, but the same goal would persist. Love your neighbor. A simple statement but when reviewed shows up as a simple yet engaging proposition for man's future. I do believe His first comments would surround our wilderness journey of today. Merry Christmas and thank you for the post and video.

If Jesus were born today, he'd probably be reminding us how important it is to enjoy life outside of our PC's. He send out reminders to spend more time with your family, enjoy all the free things our world has to offer- Oceans, lakes, hiking paths, flowers, blue skies, our children and on the list could go. He sure would be much more accessible, openly ;-) Thanks for this @Lance Scoular, enjoyed!

Hi ho, Lance, and thank you for such a warm holiday greeting, an important question to ponder, and an entertaining video. I would just note that the Pope is on Twitter, which might be the closest indicator there is today. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas in advance. I hope you enjoy the holiday season and have a happy and healthy New Year. I think Australia experiences 2017 first, right? Start making plans to party, mate!
