5 Types of Bridal Makeup

When it comes to your wedding day, you want to look your absolute best. Everyone has a different idea of what their ideal wedding makeup look will be for their big day – maybe it’s dark, dramatic makeup to go with your flowing, off the shoulder wedding dress, or maybe it’s a breezy, natural look to match your knee length sheath wedding dress. For specific tips on your bridal makeup selections, check out The Knot’s list of helpful suggestions. Whatever your perfect wedding day primping will involve, read on to discover five types of bridal makeup to consider when planning your wedding and start envisioning your perfect day!

1. The Natural Look

Some ladies like to keep it basic. If they don’t wear makeup on a regular basis, then they still want to look like themselves on their wedding day. That doesn’t mean to skip the makeup, by any means, but it means toning it down while still playing up your best features! Maybe your perfect natural look can be reached by using all neutral tones on your eyes – think light browns, gold, and tans. Or maybe a darker eye with an understated, natural lip color. Consider this option if you are having a more casual wedding, or an outdoor wedding! The last thing that you want is heavy makeup melting off your face in the midday sun, so keep that in mind.

2. Dramatic and Sultry

Maybe you’re exactly the opposite of the “natural look,” and that’s great too. If you are looking for the va-va-voom factor on your wedding day, consider going all out with your makeup. Your makeup and hair is a great way to really make an impression on your family, friends, and of course, your new spouse! Keep this option in mind especially if you have a dress that will make a statement. That off the shoulder wedding dress or the sky-high platform heels deserves a smoky eye and heavy lashes to go with them. With darker, smoky eye makeup, and the help of some dramatic eyeliner and even false lashes, you’ll be looking like you stepped out of a photo shoot.

3. Old Hollywood Glamour

If you like to keep it classic, and classy, this one is for you. Nothing beats a timeless look. Opt for traditional colors – think neutrals on the eyes with basic eyeliner and mascara, with a classic red lip color. This look might be basic, but it certainly is always in style. Never worry about looking back at your wedding photos and cringing at the “trendy” makeup you wore!

4. Cheerful and Colorful

Some brides have big personalities and want to show it in a big way. Choose a bright and cheerful color for your eyes or your lips, and make your makeup centered around that. If your wedding is themed with purple accents, for example, layer on the purple shades around the eyes. Consider even lining the eyes in a shade of your choice color, and really make your eyes stand out. Be careful to not go too far, but still have fun developing your unique look!

5. Light and Airy

For that ethereal glow and for the princess at heart, check out the right products that will have you shimmering all day. Dust your cheeks with a soft highlighter to bring out your cheekbones and add that extra bit of shine. Sweep a soft color of a shimmery eyeshadow over your lids to give you that just-right bridal glow! For the lips, think pink, berry, or mauve with a matte finish.
