Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk...the oldest amusement park operating in California today

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk was founded in 1907, making it the oldest amusement park operating in California today.  As it was then, admission remains free today, and attractions are comparatively affordable.

It’s great for a date, family, or friends.  It looks good right by the ocean, and it still runs great.

There’s so much to see, hear, taste, smell, and touch at the Boardwalk that you may need to make several visits during the summer season — Mondays and Tuesdays are dollar ride nights, making it a perfect time to splurge on all your favorite rides.

One of the most famous roller coasters is the Giant Dipper, built in 1924,  is a wooden-track roller coaster that’s impressive for any decade.  Over 60 million people have ridden the Dipper since it opened, and once you ride it yourself, you’ll see why it’s a can’t-miss.

There's also this Sea Swings where you'll have a beautiful view (photo)

While I never quite trust the engineering on these rides, you've captured the thrill of it quite nicely. Love the angle and the lighting in this shot.

#1 I have a similar story! The first time I went was 10 years ago, when I was 15 years old and also went with my family (parents, sisters, uncle, cousins) and I totally felt in love of that place. Thanks for sharing your story and experiences @Julie Hickman

I have very fond memories of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I went as a child and experienced the magic alongside my parents, siblings and cousins. Later with just my sister and I. That trip was our first real adult outing without our parents. I have to say that the people-watching aspect of the Boardwalk made the most impact on me at the time. From that point on I take any opportunity to visit and take in all the history, sights and sounds. Thank you Lorena Negrete!
