What do people talk about with their Psychologist ?

What do people talk about with their Psychologist ?

d969b95e.jpg

There are a few common themes.

Family Issues = Relationships

Friend Issues = Relationships

Work Issues = Relationships

Home Issues = Relationships

Relationships = Communication

Relationships = Listening

Relationships = Assertiveness

Relationships = Boundaries

Relationships = Self Esteem

Relationships = Compassion

Relationships = Gratitude

Relationships = Forgiveness

Relationships = Empathy

Relationships = Positive Engagement

The Formula is quite simple really : Relationships = Life

Can't see the wood for the Trees ? Try talking to a Psychologist ,,,,,,

Listening is an extremely important part of Communicating.  In today's Social Media/Digital Screen world, it's more important than ever. It used to between 18 to 20 minutes but now is just 8 seconds !

(Ted Talks are 18 minutes long)

 Beaten even by the average attention span for the notoriously ill-focused goldfish at nine seconds !

However that research may not be trustworthy https://www.bbc.com/news/health-38896790

Technological advances over the last 30 years has changed how we consume music. We have immediate access to a much larger number of songs than ever before and we can instantly skip songs. This can be explained in terms of attention economy - attention is the currency of the information age, since it is both scarce and valuable.

In his 2017 study  Drawing listener attention in popular music: Testing five musical features arising from the theory of attention economy, Hubert Léveillé Gauvin found that while in the mid-1980s the average top 10 hit had an intro that lasted 20 seconds, today the average intro is just 5 seconds long.  His study revealed that popular music has been changing in a way that favors attention grabbing, consistent with attention economy principles.

Some '80s big hits with especially long instrumental introductions:

  • "Money for Nothing" (Dire Straights) 2:04 until first verse begins.
  • "Where the Streets Have No Name " (U2) 1:46 until first verse begins.
  • "Just Like Heaven " (The Cure) :50 until first verse begins.
  • "When I Think of You" (Janet Jackson) :50 until first verse begins.
  • "Holiday " (Madonna) :49 until first verse begins.

One of my all time favs, Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell has a 1:55 intro.

It's impossible to imagine it with with 5 second intro.

How can the tension build ?
