I HOPE I DON'T GET CATFISHED BY BEBEE

I HOPE I DON'T GET CATFISHED BY BEBEE

[ox aemy |
[FA nee |There is a lot of BUZZ going around about beBee. One of the most impressive things about beBee is people really feel proud to use the site. A lot of people get an ego boost from login into beBee. This is a place where you can feel loved, supported and important.

On Bebee we have the ability to network at our fingertips, but what does it mean to be able to reach out to the worlds elite if you are a simple country girl? These are questions we all ask. Will a girl with bad teeth, ever be friends with a super model in real life. Will the rich ever hangout with the poor in real life? Will the over educated ever drink a beer with the under educated in real life? If not what are we all doing here?

d2f35897.png

Will the cool kids hangout with the nerds ever or just hit a like button and we should feel special for that alone?

beBee is a social media site and it has aspects that all social media sites and social settings have in general, there are the cool kids and the popular people. What I wonder about isn't about internet popularity. What I wonder about is real world success VS ones internet persona. What if the internet persona doesn't meet the reality?!?

6a6331cd.jpgI suppouse at every point in someone's life or career they wonder if they are a hack, if they really have what it takes. It's called self doubt. I feel beBee was very warm and receptive to me when I first started using it, but i feel like people decided I would achieve huge feats based on little evidence. Someone even hinted at being a millionaire.

Who wants to BEE a millionaire?

I do and every other person on this planet sucker!

TOP DEFINITION
A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.
Did you hear how Dave got totally catfished last month?! The fox he thought he was talking to turned out to be a pervy guy from San Diego!

or

I was really falling for that gorgeous gal on Facebook, but she turned out to be a catfish

When you say I think when a person has been gone for or awhile it's hard to get back in the groove that really resonates with me. I've traveled so much in the past three years that when I'm doing the small town country stuff like I have to do now I really feel out of my element and like I'm in an abyss.

Great post Lyon Brave , I think of all the sites out there I have to say that I've found BeBee to be one of the most intelligent and sincere I've come across, besides you have all of us here to support you. ;-)

Lyon Brave, I must say I'm glad we met on here. I think it's what we make of it and there are good days on SM and some days not so good. I think that's true across the board but I find much more good on beBee than I have on other Social Networking sites. I'm cool w/Twitter because I don't bother anyone. I think what gets the most heated on Twitter is Politics if people choose to do a 'in your face' type of response to another person they don't know. I write for the most to try and bring awareness to Mental Health issues by sharing very personal stories. I can't be sure but I think there will always be a few people who think I write for attention and that could not be further from the truth. If I wanted attention I sure wouldn't be spilling my dirty laundry all over the place LOL. I'm not on social media for popularity either. I have met many wonderful people, yourself included and feel thankful. I think when a person is away for a while it's hard to get back in the groove. That happens to me on certain sites... Linkedin for one. I haven't used it much and it's getting harder for me to go back. You have a lot of fans!

Well, I understood. For a number of years, I showed up to presentations, only to be met by oohs, aahs and expressions of surprise that my company was being represented by Brad Pitt. :-) Okay, just kidding. It was actually Matt Damon they thought they were talking to. :-)

Lyon, some people on social media use the opportunity to present themselves to others for a variety of reasons: to find work, to make business connections, to build a loyal readership for their articles and books or poems or whatever, or simply to connect on a genuine basis with others around the world and to build friendships in so doing. These are generally people who represent themselves pretty accurately, although obviously in the best light they can. There are others who use social media as a playground and the activity there as an end in itself. These are the people most likely to misrepresent who and what they are. This group is dishonest but probably harmless, for the most part, unless you are particularly gullible and expect that social media is a place to find, say, your one true love. And then there are the out and out scammers who are looking to defraud people of money, whether directly by ensnaring them outright con games or by selling them goods and services of questionable real value. In other words, social media is a microcosm of the world at large, only a place where it's a little easier to fake it all up. Good piece, raises some excellent questions. Cheers!

Bernard, the #17 tag is useful because if inserted by clicking the reply button on the comment to which you are replying, hovering your cursor over that number open a drop-down box that contains the comment to which you are replying. Thus, someone reading your comment can quickly and easily read the comment to which you are replying. I personally think it is a great feature. There is nothing to prevent someone posting a reply to your comment from using your name as well. As I did here. Cheers!

No Social Media Platform gets to " Catfish " a user... Most of the time users get catfished by themselves... Be it Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, G+, BebEE or Weibo No platform can have a 100% rate of discovering a fake... And if you are worried about this trend, then get ready when VR gets mainstream... Women could be men, men could be women and humans could be A.I. !!! Just apply common sense and dont believe Millionaires, Models and Celebs who throw themselves at your feet.

If we seek reflection from any source like man or environment then we will always be let down. Your points about "catfish" i share to some extent. Those who seek to manipulate others through process yes. Your online persona should reflect your personal values. But the goals can be different. One focused on money and growth while the other more personal and social. Affinity works to a point. But a person will be found desperate if they try and merge their personal and professional to deeply. We all go to work to provide the basic elements of existence. Where you work is a choice (Online or in office). Setting goals within our work lives is for sustaining our personal goals. They are different. We are all hacks, until we are not, in specific areas of learning. Unfortunately those who have learned seem to forget they were hacks at one time. They do not create space for others to become learned and focus through apprenticeship. Enjoyed the post, some good thoughts and observations
Lyon Brave. For me, authenticity is the best asset. The choice is yours :-) Enjoy beBee !

While the world of social media is full of catfish... I have certainly found a great number of 'genuine' people here on beBee Lyon. Some time back, I wrote a post on this, and as such, officially invite you to Bee Square. https://www.bebee.com/producer/@kevin-pashuk/calling-all-misfits-non-conformists-and-outliers-it-s-hip-to-bee-square

The only way you are going to achieve real world success is a) if you actually operate in the real world, and b) if your online persona is the same as the real world person you are. Anyone who is trying to create their own online persona (except Jim Able of course) that is different from who they are needs to be in therapy, because they are exposing their delusion to other people who are looking for the real person. Nothing good can come of that.
