Keep An "Old Tech" Back Up

Keep An "Old Tech" Back Up

11f8ab50.jpg

Today the computer system at the bank I use went down. There I was at the student store on campus and couldn’t buy a notepad because my debit card wouldn’t work. It’s been replaced a couple times because someone used my information to make a ghost card and started having a good time at my expense. Lucky for me they have insurance for that sort of thing!

The phones were down when too, so I took a went downtown to find out if it happened again. The teller told me the bank computers were down for the whole West Coast and she was sorry. She also gave me some cash from my account.

On my way back to the college I couldn’t help not thinking about how much people rely on computers. You can shop, or work, and do a lot of things online. It’s easy to take technology for granted. I’m just glad there’s the “Old Tech” systems in place for when it goes down.

The course I’m taking for writing better is all a new kind of thinking for me. It’s about making connections with people and using empathy in your writing. The less you say, the better off you are when you’re working double-shifts in a warehouse, or on a construction site, or fishing-boat.

Since I can’t go back to that kind of work because of my injuries, it’s a good idea to stick with the class. It will probably help me in my college classes and my blog. It also gives me something to do besides sit around the house and watch TV.

Not Being Able To Work Is One Thing, Doing Nothing Would Drive Me Nuts. That would be bad because a lot of people already think I’m crazy!
