Moving to Australia During the Pandemic? Reassess Your Plans!

Australia is one of the most immigrant-friendly countries in the world, attracting more than half a million people from overseas in 2019. However, while moving to Australia is not exactly prohibited (depending on your country of origin or the specific city or province you're migrating to), caution is highly advised in view of the ongoing pandemic.

Moving to Australia During the Pandemic? Reassess Your Plans!

Several industries and businesses have been affected - others on the verge of shutting down or filing for bankruptcy. While immigration bodies may give you the green light, bear in mind that the world economy has yet to recover. People move to Australia hoping to find greener pastures and explore better opportunities. But if you throw caution to the wind, you might be getting the short end of the stick.

So a simple word to the wise: step back and postpone your move until the coast is clear.

Better to Err on the Side of Caution

This is not a period for rash decisions and sudden moves. If you can wholeheartedly guarantee you won't regret your decision to move, make sure to spend time formulating a fallback plan in case things refuse to go your way. This pandemic has all too often laughed in the face of our plans (even if it has calmed down in certain parts of Australia and New Zealand).

Continue moving to Australia but put some safeguards in place to minimise collateral damage should worse comes to worst. There have been a COVID-19 resurgence in Victoria, particularly Melbourne. You may check with the area you're heading to before finalising your move.

Should You Be Moving to Australia?

At the end of the day, it's your call. But the risks are also yours to carry. If you are 100% confident in the outcome of your decision, then you have the right to move to your country of choice. Make sure to follow hygiene and/or quarantine protocols to ward off transmission and start a new leaf in Australia virus-free.

Your movers to Australia should be just as cautious when shipping your cargo to your destination. Check with various freight companies. Enquire about their safety and hygiene regulations. And if you have ascertained their trustworthiness and quality,  let them handle international shipping on your behalf.
