Overtimers and Workaholics

“You went home last night at 5:30
and came back this morning at 8:30.
Are you aware that counts as vacation time?”


Ever thought of what happens when you work too much? Simply, you’ll become workaholic and burdened with stress.


Gone are the days when hardworking and honest employees used to put extra hours for the sake of completing work to avoid any delays or discrepancies. And they were without any expectations for overtime money because they counted their efforts as voluntary.


Nowadays, it’s common norm in companies where employees are allowed to work not more than 48 hours a week. But then, based on certain requirements, there are companies that allow their workers the privilege of overtime to make some surplus money.


When people become exceedingly greedy and reckless, then they don’t bother to live a balanced life. Ah, they want to work more and earn more and more. Perhaps, in the busyness of materialistic lives, workaholics rarely ponder that moderation and mindfulness are essential for a healthy living. Yes, anything in excess is harmful.


People who are greedy for overtime should think they are allowing their hearts to work overtime too, and, with no restlessness, they are straining their bodies and earning lethargy and stress. 


In fact, overtimers are so addicted to their workplaces that they often feel uneasy in their homes. They long to work overtime by putting extra hours every day, and then they vie to work on weekends too. Workplaces, for them, are like their dwellings and they go to their houses to spend some time with their families and have little sleep. Back to work, they feel energetic.


More money can give you amenities, but it will not give you true comfort and contentment.


For example, in some companies, where there’s daily compulsive overtime, employees tend to work in a slack manner during normal hours and when the overtime schedule starts, then they show their attentiveness and seriousness at work.


Funnily, overtimers only calculate hours they have worked and the money they’ll be getting. Besides that, they don’t bother in what ways physical stress can cause imbalances in their bodies and ruin their lives in many ways.


What’s workaholism? It’s all worldliness. 


Here’s an example: An employee for the sake of gaining quick promotion slogged his way to workaholism. Very often, he used to skip his lunch breaks and work tirelessly to finish something that wasn’t urgent. sometimes, he used to work beyond regular hours or without taking legitimate week off. Finally, his carelessness, forgetfulness and overindulgence turned him diabetic patient.


Workaholics, always, want to be winners. And for that reason, they tend to influence circumstances and people. All they want is to reach their goals through little lying, focused flattery or belittling others. That way they harm themselves and others, feel no guilt in breaking relationships, get carried away with emotions of emptiness or burst with fretfulness. Strange, isn’t that?


On the contrary, composure in human lives leads to cheerfulness. Be comfortable, be happy. You live once in this world. So, what’s the use of burdening your life for some extra money, temporal status and short success.
