A newBee’s Promotion Tool Kit: The Octoblu Add-on

In the main post, I outlined a method to automate promotional tweets. I also mentioned that I would be looking into using Octoblu to make things easier. When I spoke with Koshin Mariano from Octoblu, he gave me this idea.

You can find out more about Octoblu here. The original post is here.

I made a quickie Bluprint to automate tweets like we discussed. I also added the hash tags if you want to auto-update LinkedIn and Facebook. How to do that is described in the original post here.

BTW: No, that’s not a typo. Bluprint is the way Octoblu spells it. I don’t know why they don’t like the letter “E.”

Anyway, the Flow looks like this.

You have two choices for a timer (or both if you like). The flow can fire every 7 hours or every 11 hours . We can call that 3 times a day or twice a day. Because it doesn’t divide evenly, the actual time it fires will vary as it goes.

I chose to use timers because they are time zone agnostic. Octoblu also has a CRON function if you want to pre-set specific times for it to fire. Bear in mind that Octoblu CRON runs on UTC (GMT).

You can also just fire it manually from the Octoblu site, or from their phone app. But, why bother if you can just fire once and forget about it?

One thing to keep in mind is that it will fire the first time 7 or 11 hours after you set it up. That brings up two things. One, you will need to click the Trigger to fire it immediately the first time. Two, it would be a good idea to set it up at around 10:00 AM wherever you are.

Generally, most tweet activity falls between 10:00 and 13:30. You may as well benefit from it.

The Flow tweets this tweet:

It tweets through your account. Don't worry, I'm not trying to con you into promoting me. ;-)

You can find the Flow here

https://app.octoblu.com/bluprints/cd46defe-0825-4874-b1ab-de664387a779

Open a free Octoblu account and import it. The video shows how to import and set it up for use. Your process may be a little different. My Twitter connection was already set up. Don’t worry, the wizard is straight forward.  It only takes a few minutes to do, and you only need to do it once.

.

Here’s that video I mentioned. By the way, I have a newfound respect for vloggers. Holy Crap, but this is a pain in the butt to do. The video posted here is take six. I still find it sucks. IT's fizzy as hell.

What can I expect from free screen capture software?

Reach out if you need any help.
Cheers

Hummm, it seems like pasting the comment does keep the line breaks, but cuts the reply link. I tried pasting and pasting as text Federico \u00c1lvarez San Mart\u00edn

This is a test of using copy/paste to get formatting from the post comment feed to the simplified comment feed If this works there should be line breaks within a reply. If not, the text will be in one block. Let's see

I agree, Charles David Upchurch. Hopefully, that feature will find its way over to the other version of the comment threads. You can insert breaks (line feeds) when commenting on the post itself, but not from the more general discussion one. By that, I mean the one with just the little header image and excerpt. That comment area will post when you hit enter. This comment area (on the post itself) doesn't have a reply function so it's harder to have a conversation. It's a work in progress... I have a whole new level of respect for vloggers. Writing is much easier. Thanks for the compliment about my "radio voice." I also have a face made for radio!

This is a test of multi-line commenting for me and Deb Helfrich. Will it keep the space between paragraphs, or not. Here's to hoping it will. Ciao (yes, each sentence is a paragraph)

LOL... I used to be GM of an IT hardware and services outfit. As a rep, my vertical was the non-legislative public sector. So, schools and hospitals mostly. Hospitals are harder on laptops. I had one that replaced about 7% of their laptops monthly. Then I realized that it was actually 100% of a certain department's laptops! Infectious disease protocols had them spraying keyboards with an alcohol-based thingie... Not a good idea.

Hey Paul \. We have around 1000 computers in the hands of teenagers - we see every breakage known to man, and then some. Screens going black can be a number of things... My recommendation for those with lighter requirements of computers (internet browsing, writing, etc.) would be to make great use of tools like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, web based apps etc. so all of your data and documents are backed up when (not it) the computer crashes, and you can easily switch to a new machine. Buying older (2-3 year old) machines is a good strategy and a way to save $ if your requirements are light and you are not addicted to unpacking shiny new equipment.

Hey Kevin Pashuk' screen goes black it's the video card? I don't get computers fixed anymore, Pam. When one dies, I grab another refurb one. C$ does not trick. I'm especially hard on keyboards. I bang away on them like they're an old Underwood. I also spill stuff on them.... I'm a slob
