Library of Shadows - Accepting Submissions
The Library of Shadows is a pulp, horror horror and dark fiction
experience looking to recapture some of the glory of the pulp magazine
in as many ways as we can. Contributers from all over the world share
stories within the genre to find a new audience, build a fanbase and
evolve in their writing. With over 8100 subscribers it is a great
platform for readers to find new and up-and-coming horror writers, and
horrifying stories to keep you up at night. Click here to check us out!
We here at The Library are looking for stories that are well written, character driven and have a dark aspect to them. We mostly publish horror, but are open to most genres so long as the story keeps us biting our nails and turning pages. The content should be driven by horror and suspense and have high literary quality above all else.
The Shadows is a pulp magazine, but space operas, sorcery and magic stories will find a more willing home elsewhere, despite being dark. We don’t and can’t accept “fan fiction” which includes anything based on a video game, book, movie or any other creator’s work or conception unless you have written permission from the creator. If you don’t own the copyright to the characters in your story, we cannot publish your work. By submitting to us, you, as the author of the work, accept responsibility for any possible copyright infringement.
No erotica, horrorotica, or any other unnecessarily graphic depictions of sex. Sex is okay as long as it’s integral to the story you’re trying to tell. If you use gore for gore’s sake or to try and shock us, you’ll likely receive a rejection. Gore is okay, but like sex please use it to strengthen your story and not for shock value alone.
Poetry submissions are welcome and can be of any style. You can submit up to three poems per reading period. Please submit them in separate emails and attached to the email in either .doc, .docx, or .rtf files. Poems sent in the body of an email will be deleted unread. Poems can be up to seventy-five lines each. This is firm. We will not accept anything longer.
At this time we are accepting original artwork for future covers, interiors, and for inclusion in fiction pieces. Artwork will be paid out at the same rate as story submissions.
Artwork should be dark in nature, without exceeding the limits of good taste. Unfortunately we cannot accept anything containing graphic nudity or sex,
