What Are You Going To Do Now?
How you are going to proceed is not nearly as important as WHY you want to proceed. Reasons come first, answers come second. When you get a big enough why you can figure out how to do anything. Motive brings energy. You have to find something you value more than yourself. There are a million ways how to do something that require intellectual labor. This is where our fear resides. When you get into your head your motivation is dead.
The greater your “why”, which is emotion, the easier the “how” and the “what”. What would happen if fear no longer controlled you? What are you hungry to change? Take action! When you do nothing you learn nothing. We become who we spend time with. Surrounding yourself with others that are authentic and emotionally intelligent will help you to connect with your unique passion.
Spiritual intelligence is the ultimate results multiplier. Spirituality has a very practical place in business leadership and growth. Neurological studies have shown that SQ enables the synchronous processing of information between our IQ and EQ.
Executives that combine spiritual and emotional intelligence achieve results that inspire others to follow their example. Spiritual intelligence is the “glue” that synchronizes intellectual and emotional intelligence. It enables the “sheepdog” leadership that is needed now more than ever.
The greatest enemy of change is not a no, it’s a not yet. Not yet is the safest and easiest way to postpone change. Not yet gives the status quo the opportunity to delay the inevitable change for just a little while longer. Change almost always fails because it has been delayed until it was too late. The longer you wait the less your effort is worth.
Increasingly, executives are being challenged and failing to develop higher levels of employee engagement. Alignment of both individual and organizational Visions is needed. The organizational vision is the engine driving the business. The employee visions are the “pistons” that drive the employee along with the company. The development of authentic leadership and emotional intelligence is required to create high performance organizations.
Emotional intelligence multiplies the effectiveness and results of intellectual intelligence. It is developed through the emotional labor we perform by repeatedly moving out of our comfort zones toward our desired results. The trustworthiness that comes from emotional intelligence leads to deeper client relationships as you gradually become a trusted advisor. In our rapidly expanding global economy emotional labor is now worth far more than the previous intellectual labor pursuits of the industrial and information ages.
