Game of Drones: Food for Six Dollars, Alphabet's delivery drones will start flying in Finland in 2019.
Like Amazon, Wing has spent the last six years developing a drone fleet and an automated navigation system to deliver food, medicine and small packages in a matter of minutes. After 18 months of testing in South East Australia, partnering with local companies, these drones will now sail the skies of Finland.
"We are delighted to launch our unmanned aircraft delivery service in Finland in the spring of 2019, which will be our first operation in Europe. The Finns are internationally recognized for being the first to adopt new technologies, and we look forward to working with the community and local businesses to find the best way to implement our services in the Helsinki area”, company said. The pilot test will begin during the spring of 2019 in Helsinki. Delivery drones can deliver packages of up to 1.5 kg and travel distances of up to 10 km. As in the Australian test, which made a total of 55,000 deliveries, the deliveries will be free before the official launch of the service. Customers may request a distribution through a specific application. The products will range from medicines to coffee capsules.
