Paradise Island: 2018 Holiday Destinations

If heaven really is a place on earth, as promised by Belinda Carlisle, then it’s almost certainly located on an island somewhere. Think about it – rolling waves crashing on unspoiled white sand dunes, boats chugging into harbours to offload the catch of the day, an inviting terrace and a cool beer.

Sounds nice right? Well, there are a lot choices in the world – about 2,000 in fact. Of course, not all of them are going to be holiday hot spots, which is why we have pulled out all the stops to help you to find your own heaven on earth, starting with:

Paradise Island: 2018 Holiday Destinations

Santorini, Greece

Since Greece is famous for being a nation comprised of beautiful islands, you know that recommending just one is essentially calling out the best of the best. Santorini more than fits that bill.

It is so pretty and charming that it has long been suggested as the original home of the fabled sunken city of Atlantis. Whilst that is a nice story, we’re looking for a heaven on earth here – not sunken beneath the waves.

What we have here are magnificent sandy beaches – quite possibly the best in Europe, certainly the best in Greece. Small sleepy towns filled with the kind of white-washed, traditional buildings made famous by Mama Mia and the food…. Oh goodness the food – prepare to end your holiday several pounds heavier than when you arrived.

Playa Blanca, Canaries

Named for its beautiful white sands, this small town on the southern tip of Lanzarote is a relatively newer resort.

Now, we all know the Canaries as one of the most beautiful and welcoming chains of holiday islands in the world. So there’s no need to rehash that. Instead, we wanted to point out a specific area that doesn’t get as much love as it deserves – so say hello to Playa Blanca!

If you like beaches you are halfway to paradise because this place does beaches like nowhere else in the Canaries. Up until relatively recently a small fishing village, Playa Blanca essentially sits at the heart of a 9km bay that provides some of the most attractive white, soft sand beaches you will ever see.

And what’s more, because this town is that much newer and a little less advertised, you are going to get more of the beach all to yourself. Because let’s face it, you don’t want to share heaven with too many people, right? The fact that you can find great Playa Blanca package holidays is just the icing on the cake.

Bali, Indonesia

The appeal of Bali is that as an island it really does have so much to appeal to different holidaymakers.

If you want to chill out at luxury beachfront accommodation, being pampered and spoiled like you’re at the best spa in the world – come to Bali!

If you want to disappear into the interior of the island, to see the amazing living history of ancient temples and to climb to the summit of the (still active) volcano Kintamani – come to Bali!

Of course you can also do both, trek through the jungle one day, have a facial the next. The choice is yours and that is the beauty of Bali!

British Virgin Islands, the Caribbean

So much more than a mere tax haven, the British Virgin Islands are some of the most beautiful, underdeveloped and unspoiled areas of natural beauty anywhere in the world.

Period, hands down – it’s not an argument; it’s a statement of fact.

Yes, they are expensive, yes, they are pretty exclusive. If your pockets are deep enough however then this really could be a contender for Paradise Island 2018, aka heaven on earth.

Of course, you don’t have to stay here. You could have a base for your holiday on one of the other nearby islands in the Caribbean (which let’s face it are not exactly slums in their own right) and travel over to the BVI via ferry just for a visit and to get a taste of paradise.
