Stop and smell the roses

I try to walk every day, some days I don't. One day last summer as I was walking along the Fraser River, just below my house, I came to a little park that I walk by every day. Normally as I pass this park I pay attention to the little beach, the trees, the benches, and the log booms sitting on the river. On this particular day,  I noticed a wonderful fragrance as I walked up to the park, which I had not noticed before. So I investigated and finally came across two wild rose bushes one red, one white blooming. The breeze was blowing off the river from the Northwest and as I approached from the Southwest, the fragrance captured my attention. The scent of the roses was mixed with the perfume of the cedar trees behind the rose and the smell was quite intoxicating. I sat down on the bench and allowed my imagination to roll along as I watched the river flow, and I thought of a couple of songs the first was the Log Drivers Waltz by Kate and Anna Mcgarrigle and the second was Stop and smell the roses by Mac Davis.

I was able to sit and enjoy the west coast sun, the breeze and the roses and think how lucky I am to be alive and healthy. I said thanks for the unique opportunity that I had been given. Many of us have to be reminded to stop and smell the roses. I also said thanks for my health, my friends and the people in my life who are special to me.
