Top Three Website Platforms…Which One Should Your Digital Marketing Company Choose?

Unless you’re familiar with programming languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, you'll probably want to outsource building a website to a digital marketing company.

One of the most important considerations you need to make before signing a contract is which platform to use for building your website. Once your website has been developed and is ready to go live, switching to a new platform can be time consuming and expensive.

Top Three Website Platforms…Which One Should Your Digital Marketing Company Choose?

Your digital marketing company will usually offer you three choices, Wordpress, Weebly

And Wix.

Here we examine all of them to help you make an informed choice.

WordPress

Among contemporary website platforms, this is the one that’s most widely recommended.

WordPress started out as a platform for blogging, but is now being used to build the most sophisticated websites with hundreds of pages.

As far as features go, WordPress has an integrated blogging system, ecommerce iOS and Android apps and can even include a membership system. It is also an open source platform, which means it has a huge community of open source developers who contribute to adding new features.

Aside from this, WordPress has many different extensions and add-ons to choose from giving it considerable design flexibility.

You will require a separate hosting and a domain name, however there is no cost for using WordPress and it integrates easily with most website hosting providers.

WordPress has multilingual capabilities and there are a lot of custom coding options so your digital marketing company will not be restricted while designing a website which is customised to meet your requirements.

Once your WordPress website is fully functional, it's easy for anyone to log in to the back end and update content.

An important feature of WordPress is that it has SEO integration built in and there are several plugins like Yoast, which make it easy for internet marketing service providers to optimise websites so they rank on search engines.

On the flip side, although there are several custom coding options, internet marketing service providers need to be cautious about broken extensions and libraries.

All the add-on software also has to be updated which can make WordPress quite complicated for novice users.

Weebly

Weebly has many of the features of WordPress such as an integrated blog and membership system.

Weebly has a large number of templates, many of which come with the ability to work flawlessly on mobile devices. The Weebly interface is one of the easiest to use among all the website builders.

Weebly’s drag-and-drop system is responsive and has features such as windows moving right out the way when editing content. There are also a lot of customisation options which will help your digital marketing company create a website with the look and feel that you desire. Adjusting longitude and latitude on maps, colours, images and adding the media you want is very simple. Unfortunately there aren’t many options for custom coding.

Weebly has a free plan that offers 500 megabytes of storage and unlimited bandwidth. The Starter Plan costs AUD10, the Pro Plan costs AUD 14 and the Business Plan costs AUD 30 per month.

Paid plans come with a free domain name and also $100 Google ad credit. They also offer unlimited storage and do not have Weebly Ads appearing.

The problem with Weebly is, Google dislikes it and your website will always struggle to gain any rankings in search engines.

Wix

Wix is another popular website platform that features a blog, ecommerce iOS and Android apps. It is built for high resolution devices.

Wix includes a newsletter and a membership system. It is one of the best “start from scratch” systems available. An extensive choice of designs, templates and features packed into the builder provides the flexibility that internet marketing services providers need to create amazing websites for a range of industries.

One of the features that Wix is really known for is its integrated animations capabilities which can make a website stand out from the competition.

A major drawback of Wix is that while you can edit and change a design, once you pick a template it cannot be changed. If you decide you don’t like the template once you have built the website, you will have to make an entirely new website as there’s no source code option.

Wix comes with free and paid plans. With the free plan, you cannot use your own domain name. The paid plans range from USD 4.50 a month to USD 24.50 a month. The lowest plan provides 500mb of storage and 1Gb bandwidth. Storage capacity increases on a sliding scale and Wix plans that are $12.50 and above provide unlimited bandwidth, a free domain and $75 Ad credit. Wix Ads are also removed for these plans.

Same with Wix about the problems you will encounter having your website ranked. Pretty much ever. Google will penalise you for many things a Wix website cannot accommodate.

While each website platform has its advantages, it’s important to discuss your requirements with the digital marketing company before deciding on a website platform. Most importantly ensure you will always have full control of your website and cannot be held at ransom by an online marketing services provider if the relationship turns sour.
