Willful Ignorance in Today’s Circumstances

Willful Ignorance in Today’s Circumstances

c685d339.jpg

This post was inspired by Fay’s comment on another post, containing a quote regarding the issue with this kind of ignorance.

Willful ignorance is the state of being ignorant about something out of choice. It's not a lack of access to reliable information that causes this kind of ignorance, but one's inability and lack of intent to explore that information, analyze it, and entertain the viewpoint it represents as a plausible possibility. In essence, willful ignorance is a kind of fanaticism, akin to that of religious zealots, eager to slander and even attack their "enemies" just because the latter champion a different system of faith, or even a variant of their own one. Not that there is anything wrong with faith - far from it! However, in certain matters where information is available and accessible, holding a position just because you believe in it based on your view on the matter, seems a bit shallow and perhaps even dangerous. After all, communication is possible only when people are willing to listen and entertain different points of view, at least for a while, rather than sticking to their own narrative. Naturally, communication is impossible if willful ignorance is present. Things are even worse when common sense is absent, as it seems to be the case these days.

In science, we form theories based on the evidence available and our analysis of it. We rely on the data, rather than on experts unless those experts rely on the data themselves and are equipped to deal with it responsibly. There is a whole field related to the responsible and effective processing of data, especially complex data, known as data science. For most modern sciences, some basic understanding of data science is a prerequisite, if you are to do anything meaningful with the data at hand.

The problem nowadays, particularly that related to the pandemic situation we are experiencing, is not so much related to the pathogen itself, but rather with how we react to it as a whole. At the beginning of this situation, we didn't have much data to work with, so we ended up reacting in an extreme and quite risky manner, jeopardizing the economies of various countries in an attempt to contain the problem. Since then, we have gathered enough data to conclude, with sufficient confidence, the following:

1. The lockdowns didn’t have a significant effect on the problem at hand (particularly when compared to a control sample, namely Sweden, which didn’t apply this measure).

2. Masks don't have a significant effect overall since most people are not infected, while most masks are not sufficiently dense to provide adequate protection (especially the various cloths used as masks).

3. The PCR test that people have used and still use to detect the Covid-19 pathogen is highly unreliable as it's not designed for this purpose, according to its creator.

4. Vaccines have limited effect, even if they have been around for years, while their efficacy is geared more towards children. As a result, the Covid-19 vaccine that people are waiting for as if it’s the New Messiah is bound to fail in solving the problem altogether.

5. The various measures taken against Covid-19 have created more harm than good, especially when taking into account their long-term effects as well as their effects on the mental health of the population.

6. The deaths due to Covid-19 were not nearly as high as anticipated, making this pathogen a relatively benign one compared to other viruses that have plagued our species over the centuries.

7. There is a significant number of scientists and journalists who have blown the whistle on this matter. Those individuals have even put their professional reputations on the line by doing so.

8. The so-called experts who came up with the Covid-19 measures and enforced them relied on problematic data models that haven't been updated since they were created and didn't make use of all the data available to us now.

Of course, if someone wishes to ignore all these things and continue taking the story that the media propagate (getting lots of views in the process) as gospel, that's his/her choice. However, if that's not willful ignorance, I don't know what is!

These are good questions you raise here, my friend. Indeed, it's a touchy topic. Perhaps having a conversation about it can shed some light on the matter. This is probably one of the few online platforms that this can take place. I value the importance of leadership that you point to, as it's now more necessary than ever. Cheers!

Zacharias, You have tossed a match into a cloud of flammable gas. The responses to your reasoned comments illustrate the many ways humans perceive their surroundings. I agree with Lada that the greatest shortcoming we have is an inability to apply critical thinking. It was not directly taught in any school I attended. What little ability I have in that regard is discerned peripherally. Is that, perhaps, a solution? Could a course be developed to teach the little ones as they begin to read and to cipher? Can we instill this essential skill to overcome the natural reliance of our minds on emotional decision making? I doubt it can be done for day to day but perhaps we can find a way to make it the forefront for anyone in a leadership position. Combining how and why as the basis of a leader's way of convincing and persuading my be all we can hope for. And so it goes.

That's a very good point, Lada. Thank you for bringing it up. Indeed, it's often challenging to discern what information to pay attention to and what to ignore. Critical thinking can greatly facilitate that, for sure. Cheers

I would like to highlight one thought here, "...where information is available and accessible, holding a position just because you believe in it based on your view on the matter, seems (a bit) shallow and perhaps even dangerous." However, when there's too much information about any issue, many people fail in understanding and effectively making decisions about that issue, i.e. to separate facts from fiction and rumour from deliberate efforts to mislead. That's why critical thinking is important in life.

"Closed-eyes & Hard-hearts" https://www.bebee.com/producer/@fay-vietmeier-pennsylvania/closed-eyes-hard-hearts (my response to Zacharias fine post - presenting a different angle) What is inherent in human nature that makes people unable to see? I mean to perceive. To understand. Which is deeper. This is discernment. What limits our ability to perceive & to understand which in turn contributes to the distortion of reality & truth? A simple truth: As much as time changes things, this one thing does not change: people see what they want to see … hear what they want to hear … and believe what they want to believe. Truth is NOT the Standard. “Closed eyes” A person has eyes ... but chooses not to see. This is “willful ignorance.” This is “chosen blindness.” People with closed-eyes & hard-hearts have always been present. In every generation since the beginning of mankind. However, those with “closed-eyes” & “hard-hearts” seem to be growing in a “corona-like” way. A simple truth: … Physical problems require physical cures … … Spiritual problems require spiritual cures … Willful ignorance/chosen blindness and hard-heart are spiritual problems ... spiritual conditions. The cure is spiritual. Sadly: for those suffering from willful ignorance, closed-eyes and hard-hearts ... the cure will not be sought. For there is not a recognition of the condition. Thus, no desire to be well or to be healed. "Willful ignorance proves that fools exist." ~ me more...

I think it important to understand how money is buying our will. Through relativism we are being shown that one point is better than another because my point saves you the other destroys you. No matter context relativism always ends in anarchy. In the beginning it all sounds reasonable. But as the spiral tightens the factions lose their discrimination of who the targets are. Everyone is now a target. It's too late, the powers that be have set forward a narrative that can't be stopped, the tipping point has been crossed. When i view news and it is cohesive across platforms i know the narrative of relativism has taken hold. Is Covid the tipping point? Who knows. When you see or hear another person developing a narrative that something is bad therefore i am good....Check your shoes, you are standing knee deep in relativism.

I sense in your occupation that you encounter the phenomena of hidden agendas. Folks press a point but you sense there's something deeper going on. A self fulling need or want that is selfish, if said out loud. SO we hide the agenda behind noble concepts. I am sure well intentioned but none the less selfish in outcome. Contrary to thought this is not necessarily a judgement, but rather a statement of the person's ability to truly believe they are helping others. They forget their own agenda seeking. A lie with enough nobel causes around it, becomes believable. But i know in the end the lie consumes those who portend it is true. The question is how many do they take down with them? Great thoughts as always.

A young man watched me explaining to a young woman what I know several nights ago. She did not want to believe what I had to say. I saw him again a few nights later and he told me he knew what I said was true, but that my delivery of such information was lacking. I just [boom] say it. I told him I knew my communication was lacking but hey--I'm an egghead [for those in different parts of the world that's a very smart person who lives for analysis] A few people in the room went on about how very, very smart I am when I interrupted, "It doesn't matter how smart I am if I cannot convince you you are in danger and need to prepare for what's coming." This entire situation has been evolving for a long time. I have only been immersing myself in it for about three years. "Three years," You say? But this plague has only been around since [what] December? It was always part of the plan. I knew they were going to crash the economy; I just didn't know how. A few people believed me and took precautions. I'm glad for them.

Joyce 🐝 Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee Thank you for your comment Yes I am Australian The current LNP Federal Government is possibly the most corrupt Aus Government in my lifetime, if not overall Hence to many Aussies it seems like they are "making it up as they go along" not planning ahead and not monitoring. So due to their mistakes of Federal border control containment, as like many things in Aus, COVID19 came largely by boat - the Ruby Princess. From "my youth", I have travelled fairly extensively through out the rest of the world. I understand the Global concept with air access. That's why as with many Aussies from our Island Down Under, until a proven vaccine is in use, Border Closure works.

The Liberal National Party (LNP) Federal Government has been very much on the back foot or on the hop or on the fly meaning struggling to keep up with COVID19 as it has unfolded LNP Federal Government here has been fanatical about a fantasy budget surplus above the wellbeing of the Australian people State Government has largely led the way in controlling COVID 19 Especially Labour State Governments and their Premiers were constantly vilified by the LNP Federal Government There are 5 / 8 Labour State Governments - Victoria, Queensland (QLD), Western Australia, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and the Northern Territory. They all closed their borders except ACT the Government Capital which is inside New South Wales (NSW pop: 8 million). In Australia, we have States of vast area and small population (almost 26 million) compared to Europe which is possibly why with border closures worked. So LNP government NSW (pop: 8 million) the most populous State kept it's borders open. While Victoria (pop: 7 million) the 2nd and QLD (pop: 5 million) the 3rd most populous states, closed their borders. Victoria really saved Australia by staying closed. QLD saved the North of Australia with it's considerable indigenous population by staying closed. Victoria and QLD worked as a counterbalance for NSW. In QLD, the state election was last Saturday. The incumbent Labour Premier was re-elected by a huge margin. People spoke with their vote. They agreed with the closed border policy health approach rather than an economic one. Then the LNP Federal Government praised itself on all the good work it had done ! Having a healthy economy, does not compensate for the health of loved ones who didn't survive COVID 19 2

Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris TY for this is well written post Unfortunately those who perpetrate "Willful ignorance is the state of being ignorant about something out of choice" prey on those who "lack of access to reliable information and/or have the inability and lack of intent to explore that information, analyze it." I see this "fanaticism, akin to that of religious zealots" as being all about $ and power that can buy. Unfortunately, the world seems to be entranced by this and the "Celebrity" status that goes with it. I often wonder how many million, billion or trillion $ are enough ? 1
Louise Smith But they are not making it up as they go along. This has all been well planned out. People were bought out long ago. We just weren't paying attention. Ordinary people are in for a shock when this goes into play around the world: https://thecanadianreport.ca/is-this-leaked-memo-really-trudeaus-covid-plan-for-2021-you-decide/ Internment camps are being built globally for those who dissent. And in the USA, Dodd-Frank [our banking protections] have been messed with legally allowing banks ownership of every penny we deposit in them. When banks crash [and they will] either in reality or on paper, they can confiscate anything deposited in them--including safety deposit boxes. In return, depositors get a slip of paper showing they are part owners in a failing system. [There goes FDIC.] I see you are in Australia, Louise. Then you are close to some action. I know people in NZ, and I know how bad it is there. People see the globe as a huuuge place and that what is going on halfway across the world cannot impact them. But the world is far smaller than we comprehend in most cases. It's a hop, skip, and a jump for those creating this mess with their private jets and such.

"I would have never thought that with enough money we could reach the point where the will of the people could be bought." I think the same Harvey Lloyd . The current political situation across the world is shocking. They seem to make it up as they go along without consultation with experts or research. Then when there is proven knowledge they "willfully ignore it" or worse undermine it claiming it is lies But $$$ talks Those with $$$ often (not always) bully Ordinary people with kids & a mortgage or retired on a pension, are not in a position to do too much to counteract this directly They are flat out surviving Meanwhile all the public services they need are deteriorating
Around the halls of those in the know, we actually call these people potato heads. You've called my work dystopian in the past, Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris. It was not dystopian; it was desperate. I was desperate to wake people to the danger. It's probably too late now. I think we may have about a month before it gets really, really bad. I hope I am wrong, but I seldom am. The piece I just put out with Exley's admonishment of a so-called news outlet--the BBC is quite representative of how MSM is leading people all over the world off of a lemmings-cliff. There are already areas in the world where starvation is setting in. This will spread as food becomes scarce. And people will continue to fight each other rather than those who are creating this mess. I encourage you to research this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Guidestones Of course, these wonderful aspirations do not include all of us and are driven by those who have set about making it impossible for most of us to survive. Look to those flooding the airwaves with help and hope if you want to recognize our progenitors of this disaster. I wish I had never known...

Thank you for the share Javier 🐝 CR and everyone for your comments. Perhaps having an open discussion about this topic is the first step to learning more about the truth of it all, which usually eludes the journalists today. Cheers!
I can sense that you may be having conversations with brick walls. Welcome to the club.

Money for brains. Branding works! I would have never thought that with enough money we could reach the point where the will of the people could be bought. There was a time when you could separate politics from science or fact. Through branding politicians have harnessed social science to bend the will of people through fear and character assassination. In law this is called jury nullification. The process where you introduce so many related and unrelated facts in such away a choice can not be made. Every choice is a negative outcome for you. You are on point. But the fear i see on people who have bought the narrative. Having set on a reopening team there are folks who are terrified of this virus. Even when presented with real evidence of its effects and transmission. On Nov. 4th all of the anti-whatever groups will still be with us. ????

Ignorance a lack of enlightenment. Rather than wilful perhaps some people, just havent seen the light, on been given believable evidence that will convince them to switch on the light that illuminates the current perceived "truths". Perhaps next week a another set of contradictory "truths" to enlighten us. Your right Zacharias its right or wrong our choice what we believe.
