NEW EUROPEAN BUSINESS NETWORK beBEE APPOINTS
SOCIAL MEDIA GURU MATT SWEETWOOD TO HEAD U.S. OPERATIONS
NEW YORK, NY --- Madrid-based beBee.com, a new business network platform that has attracted more than 11 million users in its first year, has appointed social media guru Matt Sweetwood as President and CEO of beBee USA.
The Spanish start-up (www.bebee.com) is challenging industry giant LinkedIn. Founded a little over a year ago by digital marketing experts Javier Cãmara and Juan Imaz, beBee has a strong presence in Spain (4.5 million users), Latin and South America (3.6 million) and India (970,000).
Its goal is to exceed 40 million users by 2017.
The company announced that Sweetwood will become President & CEO of beBee USA as it looks to swarm the U.S. job networking market, where it is already approaching 100,000 users. He will be responsible for establishing and managing the company’s U.S. operations, building and leading the senior executive team, setting strategy and direction, and allocating capital to meet the company’s priorities.
Sweetwood was President of Unique Photo in Fairfield, NJ, for 29 years, where he was recognized for reinventing the modern camera store. He grew a business started by his parents in 1947 into one of the largest privately-held suppliers of film in the United States and guided its transformation into one of the largest stand-alone camera stores in the country.
The marketing savvy executive built his brand in great part through social media. He is the 11th most followed Chief Marketing Officer on twitter and a contributor to widely-read sites such as Entrepreneur and The Huffington Post. He became the face of the $89.6 billion photo imaging industry through morning TV news show appearances including Fox News Channel and The Today Show and was named the PMDA Person of the Year in 2016.
Sweetwood has a Master’s degree in Theoretical Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Mathematics from Rutgers University. The Morristown, NJ resident is moving to New York City where beBee will open its U.S. headquarters.
“Social media influencers have been discontent with LinkedIn; they feel it is unresponsive to users, particularly those who use it beyond its roots as a recruiting tool and a job search site,” said Sweetwood. “I’m honored to work with Javier and Juan and the beBee team in establishing this exciting user-friendly platform as the go-to source for networking here in the U.S. They have a very successful model in place that better meets the needs of today’s job seeker.”
beBee sets itself apart from other networking sites by allowing user groups or “Hives” to build business relationships through “affinity marketing” in which people connect and develop relationships based on common personal and professional experiences. It already has more than 23,000 user groups.
“Matt has the leadership qualities we seek and he completely understands the role of social media and personal branding in today’s economic climate,” said Cãmara. “He’s managed and grown a very successful business by adapting to meet the changing needs of consumers and demands of the marketplace.”
With 65% of employers using social media to source new hires, beBee is attractive to job seekers and hiring companies alike as it is completely free to use and as the new player in the market is an attractive alternative to existing platforms. It already has more than half a million vacancies and is creating a buzz in the marketplace both abroad and now in the U.S.
